That’s for damn sure if I click on trending, hot or new it’s mostly the same dan authors o really have to put in effort to find new content that’s of high quality it’s starting become rather painful sifting through the rubbish and makes it hard to interact on the platform

It's something we hope Steemit does add in the future. People can post the same content on many different Steem based platforms, essentially spamming the feed.  A filter in this case would certainly be a good idea!
