There's a saying about " penny wise, pound foolish ". Some people apply this, they will be wise in things of less important but won't apply such wisdom in things of importance. Imagine if you had not spent that $35.. Who knows how much you would have lost. Congratulations dear.

Yeah, windows is definitely much more vulnerable, but mac users need to beware too. Good advice, especially for anyone browsing some of the shadier corners of the web

I use the free version of avast on my windows laptop - i've often wondered whether it was worth paying for the full version - some articles I'd read online indicated that the difference might not be so vast between free and paid versions - but now I'm nervous again...

This post came at the right time that I needed it most.

A steemian I know hot his account hacked today and all his sbd transferred to blocktrades. We tried guessing the loophole on how he got hacked but couldn't come to a valid conclusion.

But then, my main suspicion is that he had a trojan app, a keylogger or a clipboard stealer installed on his phone. Maybe he downloaded an app that's not from playstore and he doesn't even have a good antivirus to start with.

I'll try sending this post link to him to read and learn from it.

Also, I've learnt from it too and I'm grateful.

Where did you buy this software? I only found a $49 anti-virus from BitDefender. Do they help with keyloggers and clipboard stealers?

Bitdefender has been a favorite of mine. It won't be bad to have it installed again to be sure we don't have a malware or keyloggers installed on our PC. The crypto world is full of a lot of malwares masquerading as normal apps or websites. Thanks for the heads up.

I think about this often. I have very little money in crypto as of now, but I still think about the possibilities of someone snatching it up from me. Even with my small amount, if they did so across a large scale, it would amount to be quite the profit for them. 

So that being said I have definitely been thinking about investing in some more security once the time comes. When I say "once the time comes", I simply mean that by the time I can easily pay for the security with some of my crypto earnings, that's my sign it's time to start protecting them more.

I think I read somewhere recently that it's estimated that there are over 3 million websites running these botnet browser hijacking types of scripts. It's a small subset of the web, but its still a damn lot of sites. Yeah, $35 is well worth it.

My colleague @peterwrites woke up to discover that 44sbd had been transferred from his account to an unknown user and he had no idea about it. I think investing  in this security measure is some good stuff and might benefit him. Great post here.

An anti-virus program can usually only identify known malware. In spite of all this, it is necessary to protect oneself accordingly. What's $35 if you have a multiple in crypto currencies. 

However, anti-virus programs do not provide comprehensive protection. It is very important to deal with security issues in order to detect phishing attacks.

That's scary. I try to stick to more well-known sites so I don't get viruses and such. And I have paid anti-virus software installed. There are just too many people out there who are trying to get your info. It's crazy how prevalent this stuff is now. Gotta be on your toes. Good advice!

Honestly, I think I need this type of antivirus or antimalware. My computer memory suddenly runs out in recent times. Maybe I have a website running a mining programme on my laptop with my ignorance. Thanks for sharing this. @rok-sivante

That's why I use linux. Less security flaws. Microsoft is just full of holes. I bought Windows business laptop recently and it's already slowed right down and getting problems, I don't know why I bothered. You shouldn't need to buy all sorts of extra security for an OS, it should be secure out of the box.

And here i am still using my good old Windows Defender. Seems that i have to upgrade my protection even though i don't go to shady or malicious sites,  just the typical mails, youtube, and of course a lot of time at Steemit.
