The forested hilly area looked so arid. All changed after ten years. At that time dense forest was still seen covering the hill in green. Now it's so sad. The soil looks yellowish red. The topsoil is eroded by the flow of rainwater.
The peak of the disaster happened a few days ago. heavy rain with very high fraud occurs in all hilly areas. Everyone remembers the tragic event. lonely nights because no one wants to get out of the house. The rain makes them choose to stay in the house. The government announced to all citizens to be aware of the possibility of flooding.
And it really happened. Suddenly there was a roar from the top of the hill. Like the sound of big stones being bubbled up. In an instant the water overflowed and washed away 100 families. Most residents who are swept away are residents of riverbanks. Flash floods swept the right and left sides of the river causing casualties both property and lives. Until the morning 45 corpses were found. There is a possibility that there will be an increase in the number of 100 families directly affected by the flash flood.

<h2> What is flash floods? </h2>
We need to know about flash flood as lesson material so that it does not happen again.We need to make all of the  people aware of flash floods, their characteristics or signs and how to overcome it.
Flash flood is a flood that occurs in an area that has a low surface and occurs because of rain that continues to fall. This flash flood has a sudden coming  and usually occurs very quickly. This flash flood occurs because the water in the area is at its saturation point, so that this flood occurs so fast that it cannot be absorbed by the soil layers anymore. Because running water can no longer be absorbed by the soil, consequently the remnants of water will be inundated in the lower areas.
This flash flood is classified as a large flood and causes many losses. This is because a sudden flash flood can drag anything if the current is strong. In addition, all objects that are passed by the flood will be surrounded by water suddenly. Besides causing huge losses in the form of material, flash floods also cause many other losses.

<h2> Signs of a flash flood coming </h2>
Signs of flash floods will occur as follows:

<b> 1. The sky is dark in the river upstream
When we see a black cloud in the direction of the headwaters of the river it could be a sign of possible flash floods. When we see the black clouds, it indicates heavy rain in the headwaters of the river. Heavy rains in the upper reaches of the river will raise the chances of a flash flood. So from that when we see the black clouds that are in the headwaters of the river we should immediately move away from the area around the river flow, because of the potential occurrence of the floods.

<b> 2. Rumbling. </b>
This roar is a sign of the flow from upstream carrying heavy material such wood or everything in the river. This could be a sign that there is a large river flow.

<b> 3. The water turns turbid. </b>
One sign that will cause flash floods is a change in river water from being clear to muddy suddenly. This is one sign that can be easily identified and seen in plain sight. When you see something like this, then immediately away from the river area is a very appropriate choice. Because if this is not done immediately, then there is a risk that is not good because of flash floods can occur suddenly without the knowledge of the people around him.

<b> 4. There are many branches and trees that flow in the river </b>
Another sign of a flash flood is that if we encounter a lot of trash or twigs of trees washed away by the river. However, if we observe beforehand, the branches and rubbish at first did not exist. This is one sign of the occurrence of flash floods.
If you see signs that there will be a flash flood, we must get away from the river river. This is because flash floods will come suddenly and take place very quickly. When we are not swift in saving ourselves, then there is a risk that we will be followed by a very heavy water flow from the flash flood.


<h2> How to anticipate </h2>
After knowing the characteristics or signs of the coming of flash flood then now we must know how to anticipate them.
  
<b> 1. Stay away from the river flow. </b>
   If you find signs of a flash flood coming, you should stay away from the center of the river flow. Will have more chance to save yourself if we are on the river bank. don't take silly steps by staying in the middle of the river.
  
<b> 2. Do not turn the riverbank into a settlement </b>
  The community's habit of making riverbanks as a place of residence risks being affected by flooding. For this reason, it is necessary to educate the community simultaneously so that they do not make the riverbanks a place of residence. Return the river bank as a river buffer zone and vegetation area that can keep the river normal.
  
<b> 3. Don't cut down the forest carelessly </b>
  Forests on the slopes of the mountains and hills are flood guards. so it would be better if we take care of the forest from preaching. if the forest is bare then no one will hold water when it seeks to soak into the ground so that all will enter the river flow, If the water discharge is too large it can certainly cause flooding.
  
<b> 4. Don't litter. </b>
  We still see bad habits when managing waste. Many people are looking for practicality that makes river as a trash can. this will make the water flow clogged and cause flooding. Therefore, let us invite everyone to behave well by not throwing trash into rivers or improper places.
