# Yesterday was a beautiful sunny spring day in Bavaria, so I hit the road to capture some of the unfolding beauty.

## To Zoom or not to Zoom?
This is one of my favorite times of the year, with lush flowering meadows, blossoming trees, blue skies, and snow-capped mountains.  This scene is close to home, and it is also one of my favorite views.  With each passing year I breath a sigh of relief that there was no new construction.  The church with the village behind it, and the mountains in the distance is so beautiful.  After the ice age this entire area was underwater.  Later the Celtic people lived here, in fact Celtic graves have been discovered near the church.

# *Gestern war ein schöner, sonniger Frühlingstag in Bayern, also bin ich los gefahren, um etwas von der Schönheit einzufangen.*
##### *Zum Zoomen oder nicht zum Zoomen?* 
*Dies ist eine meiner Lieblingszeiten im Jahr, mit üppig blühenden Wiesen und Bäumen, blauem Himmel und schneebedeckten Bergen. Diese Szene ist in der Nähe von uns, und es ist auch eine meiner Lieblingsansichten. Mit jedem Jahr atme ich erleichtert auf, dass es keine neue Bebauung gegeben hat. Die Kirche mit dem Dorf dahinter und den Bergen in der Ferne ist so schön. Nach der Eiszeit war das gesamte Gebiet unter Wasser. Später lebten hier die Kelten, in der Nähe der Kirche wurden sogar keltische Gräber entdeckt.*

*Weil es eine meiner Lieblingsansichten ist, habe ich viel darüber nachgedacht, wie ich es für euch einfangen könnte. Bei dieser Aufnahme entschied ich mich auf die Wiese zu gehen, um das Bild unten mit dem Grünen und oben blau einzurahmen, wobei die weiße Kirche und die schneebedeckten Berge deutlich zu sehen sind. Ich mag das Ergebnis, aber der Nachteil ist, dass beim Zoomen viel übersehen wird – zum Beispiel die Kühe, die auf der Weide grasen.*

Because it is one of my favorite views, I gave a lot of thought about how to capture it for you.  For the first shot I decided to walk into the meadow, framing the image in green below and blue above, with the white church and snow-capped mountains clearly visible.  I like the result, but the trade-off is that by zooming in there is much that you don't see.  For example, notice the cows grazing in the pasture in the shot above.

Can you imagine how tasty this must be for them?

## Embracing the Road 
A road, especially a winding road, is one of my favorite motifs.  In contrast to the shots above, here your eye is probably somewhat drawn to the road.

*Eine Straße, besonders eine kurvenreiche Straße, ist eines meiner Lieblingsmotive. Im Gegensatz zu den obigen Aufnahmen, wird hier der Blick wahrscheinlich etwas mehr zur Straße hingezogen.*

Finally, I decided to embrace the road and make it the center of attention.

## Decorating with Espalier Trees
This is something you often see here, fruit trees, especially apple trees, are cordoned and frame the wall of a house or building.  They look great all year, in winter the stark wooden patterns are visible, in spring the blossoms, the green in summer, the fruit then hang like ornaments, and then in the fall the colorful leaves.

## Dekorieren mit Spalierbäumen
Das sieht man oft, Obstbäume, vor allem Apfelbäume, umrahmen die Wand eines Hauses oder Gebäudes. Sie sehen das ganze Jahr über gut aus, im Winter sind die kräftigen Holzmuster sichtbar, im Frühling die Blüten, im Sommer das Grün, die Früchte hängen dann wie Ornamente, und dann im Herbst die bunten Blätter.
