 I began this year knowing that my weight was too high and I was getting back into the pattern of emotional eating again. My day would typically go like this: go to work, get stressed, eat a Panera cookie.  ###### *Looks and smells so good!* <br> Panera donated cookies to our school for free, and even though I could resist the other pastries or cookies, I would always set these lemon lovelies aside when I saw them. Even on my good days where I would try to wait until the end of the day to eat them, something bad would happen and I'd break the cookie in half and get some quick lemony comfort. When 2018 rolled around, my friend asked if I wanted to try a ketogenic diet with him. I agreed, but set a caveat that I could quit after one month if I wasn't happy with the change in lifestyle. As of today, I have been on the diet for one month and 10 days, and I've lost 20-25 pounds and feel slightly better than before. The notch I use on my old belt is closer to the smallest hole and my clothes fit much better than they used to. ### When I look at myself in the mirror I look less like the Ghost Busters marshmallow man, and more like a thinner marshmallow man.<br><br>  When I play volleyball, I have more energy and feel less sore than before. And I also have gotten fewer colds compared to people around me (knock on wood!). How is this all possible? While some effects are purely anecdotal, other effects are 100% legit. Ketosis is a state you can hack your body to enter if you supply it with no sugar and a very low amount of carbs. A diet of 70% fat and 30% protein hits an internal switch and the human body will start using fat for fuel. Just like my cookie binges, the body doesn't know when to stop. The fat burning continues and is sourced by fat from your body, which is why people often loose weight while on the diet. That 70-30 percent ratio *just works* because your body pulls tons of energy from fat. One gram of fat gives your body 9 calories compared to the 4 calories you get from protein or carbs.  I use percentages, because everyone's body is different. Your's is different than mine, and mine is no where near The Rock's body. But at some point, if you can continue with the diet, you will find an equilibrium between the demands of the diet, and your schedule. If you consider the diet, please consult your doctor first. From my reading, this diet isn't for anyone who has diabetes. You also may want to refrain from grilling pounds of bacon if there are any vegetarians or vegans nearby. This post is more of an introduction to the concept of my trek into this keto diet, and the following posts will focus on what hitting fat targets looks like, what happens when you cheat, clever food hacks, and the original use of ketogenic diets. Keto diet is the best diet when done correctly, and it can be dangerous when done poorly. You have to be stringent with regards to choosing good fats and really refraining from eating processed carbs and even vegetables and fruits that are high in carbohydrates, or else the diet will work against you. On my first week of doing keto, I experienced the so-called "keto flu." I had massive headaches and I couldn't function well. For me, it is better to start a keto diet when you are not busy and when you have the time to just go to bed when you are feeling crappy. What I did to minimize the symptoms of keto flu is I drank more water and made sure that I replenish all lost electrolytes. I also made sure that I am eating enough fats from good sources like grass-fed meats and butter, organic eggs and veggies. I eat mostly greens and avoided starchy veggies and root crops and most fruits. I have lost 20 pounds in a month doing this diet.

Totally true. I will be doing a post on a day when I forgot I was on a diet then continued to cheat. It was not a good scene. I definitely feel best when I stick to it. Especially the times where I have olive oil.

The most important thing we should always be able to keep our body healthy. Although we eat a lot and we have a fat body. I do not think that's a big deal, because it's important that we keep our diet, and take care of our health. But we have to have a sport every day, even if it's just a minute. I have heard this term "ketogenic diet" before, but never looked into it what it's all about. I can see how effective it can be when your body starts using fat for energy when you're not consuming any sugar. And the amount of weight you lost in such a short time sounds really good! I would give it a shot, but since I'm trying to switch my lifestyle into veganism, this diet is not really for me at the moment.

Many ways to diet, in the end I would say it all comes down to whatever floats your boat. I personally enjoy the keto diet quite a lot, mostly because I feel a lot of mental clearness as my body experience ketosis.
