 In the world of [cryptocurrency](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/cryptocurrency), nothing seems new to me anymore. Day in and day out we hear stories of how people have fallen victim to scams. We hear the stories and we wonder how? Just how did they pull it off so easily and get away with it?   

  But then when it comes to [money](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-money) anyone can do anything. This is not the first time we’ve heard of bad people using the influence of popular people to get what they want deceptively from owners of cryptocurrencies.   

 Just last year there was a hack on [Twitter](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-twitter) that involved numerous big accounts on Twitter. The hackers posted a fake announcement where users could get double of what they sent to the account. It looked too good to be true but it came from the most influential people in the world. Can you imagine Jeff Bezos announcing on his Twitter account that you could get 1 million dollars just by sending 10k dollars? Yes, it looks too good to be true but in this instance, there are a lot of people who would fall victim to this.   


 The X account of the [Ethereum](https://leofinance.io/@crypto-guides/what-is-ethereum-eth) Founder was hacked.  A few days ago a similar thing like this happened again. This is not the first time this has happened this year. We’ve heard news of popular crypto project accounts [social media](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-social-media) accounts getting exploited and fake or [phishing](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-phishing) links posted there of fake [airdrops](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-airdrop) for users to follow and subsequently get their crypto drained.   

  A few days ago. The X(Twitter) account of the Ethereum founder was hacked and used to exploit thousands of people. It was the regular phishing link that redirected users to a different site which drained their crypto.   

 Now in this recent scam, an amount totaling to about 700,000 dollars was stolen from victims. Now it’s not about the scam that interests me in this case, We’ve heard of how people are being scammed day in and day out with malicious links but it’s how this scam was conducted.   


What most hackers do is to employ the use of basic software or simple ways to get what they want after posting these fake links. Now in this case the hacker used a sophisticated software known as pink software.   

 ### <center>Pink Drainer Software</center> 


 With pink Drainer software, you’re likely to get hacked easily as soon as you get to click on the link that redirects you. Pink has its creators and in this case, a hacker who employs the use of pink eventually has to [pay](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-payment) a fee to the developers of the software. How cruel right? But then it is what is it.   

After the hackers performed a successful attack it was later that the father of Butterin announced on his own Twitter account that the twitter account of his son was compromised and subsequently used to promote phishing links.   

 How do we deal with this? I sincerely don’t know how. The thing is, there are people out there who post real airdrop links and as such it’s mostly hard not to get caught up in all of this.   

  It’s very hard to ignore an airdrop call especially if it’s from a popular project or a popular person in the crypto space. The recommended thing is to have a separate wallet which contains very little or no money for chasing these airdrop stuff.   

 I can’t stop people from chasing airdrops cause I also want airdrops lol.   Remember to stay safe out there cause the rate at which accounts are getting drained is alarming.
