About a few months ago, I started getting my hair done at a salon close to my house. Initially I did my hair at a shop close to my workplace but since the person moved to another location, I was on the lookout for another good salon. Luckily, I was able to get one close to my house.

The hair stylist there is very good at her job and her rates are also cheaper. Plus, she is very friendly. At first, when I started getting my hair done in her shop, we barely said one or two words to each other. She would be making my hair while I spent the time pressing my phone. 

As time went by, I started to relax a bit and get comfortable with her. It was easy seeing as she is very hospitable. Our conversations moved from two words to more than two. She would gist about things happening around while I smiled at some or gave a few comments. 

I began to notice that some of the things she talked about were things I knew nothing about even though I was living in the community. She only has a shop there, she doesn't live there yet she knows a whole lot. 

One day she asked me if I remembered what happened about a year ago and I told her “No”. She gave me a shocked look probably because she believed what had happened should have been a general knowledge and was surprised to see that I was oblivious of it. She was forced to ask me how long I had been staying in the community. When I told her how long I have been staying in the community she exclaimed, “How come you don't know?Don't you go out? Don't you ask people questions?”, 

She bombarded me with these questions and I just smiled but deep down it made me realize I might be taking the “minding my business” personality too far. 

Before now I am used to minding my own business. At times, I would hear loud noises outside which is common. Once I open my door, peep outside and see the cause of the commotion, I would just go back inside and continue with whatever I was doing. Sometimes some people might be quarreling, some would hurl insults at one another. Since it doesn't affect me, I would just close my door and go about my daily activities and while there are some advantages to this, I am now rethinking that the demerits might trump the merits.

 Most times when I go out and come across a large gathering of people in the community, probably due to an incident that might have occurred or some sort of emergency situation, I will just pass by, greet some people I am able to and just go my way. I won't even have any idea of what had happened unless I overhear people talking about it later on which is not all the time. A concerned resident of the community would probably stop and ask questions or inquire the reason for the gathering but not me.

Information is power which is why it is good to always ask questions. I mean when I want to do research on a particular topic, I could easily take my phone and check online but everything can't be only and I am a bit lacking in the aspect of gathering some information offline. 

So that's one thing I am determined to change moving forward. I am not saying I want to become a full blown busybody or be in everyone's business but I would love to be in the know of some things, ask questions on things that might be relevant.
