Denzel Washington Commencement Speech
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxY_e...

Hey guys, as you know I'm big into personal growth and personal development talks and videos. I normally listen to them on my way to work as well as while working out.

The other day I was listening to one by Denzel Washignton which I've linked to above. One message that really stood out to me in this speech is the line "don't confuse movement with progress."

How many of you guys have felt like your putting in a lot of time, a lot of energy, and a lot of effort and not getting much out of it?

I think it's so easy to go full speed ahead, but really be just jumping from one thing to the other and not actually making a lot of progress.

This is something I see a lot in myself and something I'm really working on improving in 2018. I talk to you a lot of you guys via e-mail and Youtube comments and I know I've spoken with a lot of people who experience the same thing so wanted to get a video made on this topic and get it out there for you guys.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this topic so drop your comments in the comment section below...

I agree. Just because you are busy doesn't mean you are productive. A lot of people spend time on things that in the long run will not be beneficial for anything. Think we all need to evaluate how we spend our time and make sure we are spending it on productive tasks.

Working hard is good, but ideally, you work smarter not harder. One of the things I've struggled with is putting in a lot of effort into my work, but not reaping the rewards because I've invested too much time into the wrong things. Focusing on the things that really matter (80/20 rule) will make you the most productive. There are two kinds of people. Productive people and busy people. I know which one I'd like to be.

I really like the analogy of filling a jar of rocks. Different sized rocks. The small rocks represent low impact tasks like checking email, reading the news minor chores etc. The bigger stones represent more impactful tasks, like specific parts of bigger projects, reading for self improvement or advancing your knowledge of a subject you'd like to become an expert in, or putting the time and effort into your business, work, or investments.
If you fill the jar with all small stones you can't fit the big ones in where as if you do the big tasks first, then you can always fit some of the smaller tasks in afterwards. Time is an investment. Spend it wisely!

Hey @rulesforrebels ,
Yeah being a full time IMer over last 10 years, I have seen it alot. We term it as S.O.S. a.k.a Shiny Object Syndrome...jumping from one program to another. It's almost like an adrenaline addiction they get. It's new and exciting but once the novelty wears off they move on to something else. Interesting but also sad .
