## What does voting on a post actually mean?
If you want to vote for a blog post, you can do so by clicking on the arrow next to the amount that is listed under that post.

You must remember this:

# It does not cost you anything to cast a vote. 
No Steem, no money, nothing that is yours is given away. In other words, everything you have in your wallet remains unchanged when you cast a vote.

## Voting power decreases

What few people know is that if they vote on blog posts or comments their voting power decreases with every vote. (People with more than 500 STEEM Power get a slider with which they can determine how many percent of their votingpower they want to vote with on a blog post) 


* **Beginning Steemians always vote with 100%**

If you spray around votes all over Steemit, in the end, your voting power will be exhausted and even if you vote with 100% power, your vote has actually no value for the person who created the blog post.

As far as I know, it takes 5 full days to recharge the full voting power. Provided you do not vote in the meantime, of course.

## Stay strong
A piece of advice to keep sufficient voting power is to keep an eye on how much your current voting power is before you start handing out votes.

There are several calculation models that I will not exhaust you with.

What I try to do is give a maximum of 10 votes a day at **100%**. Furthermore, on the comments of others, I give **10%**.

I do not try to get under the **90%** voting power before I go to sleep. When I wake up the next day I have the full voting power again!
