A story was told of a farmer that owns a cocoa plantation. There was a particular cocoa tree that normally produced more than the others. His attention was drawn to it and it became his priority when it comes to nursing his farm. Over the years, the output of the cocoa tree began to dwindle. It got to a point where it stopped yielding cocoa pod and the farmer had to cut it down and planted another one in its stead because it lost value and it became irrelevant.

The story of the farmer and cocoa tree also happens in other aspects of human lives. As long as you keep adding value, you will be preferred over others that are not. However, your relevance is only attached to your adding value. Once you stop adding value, your relevance becomes questionable.

Most (if not all) employers are looking out for who will add value to their organization, not who will become redundant. This is why you have to constantly seek for what you will bring to the table. It is the extra effort you add to make things work that will make you produce extraordinary result.

You need to try something new and different from the stereotype in order to make a difference. You do not always have to follow the stereotype, you have to seek for ways to create and initiate your own prototype. If your boss in the office stops giving you tasks to perform, then watch it, you might be losing value and relevance without even realizing it.

To stay at the top in this era where insane competition has taken over the world, then you must be quick to provide solutions to the problems facing humanity. This will create value for you and make you very relevant. The truth is, people and the world will always seek for the ones they know will add value to their lives and provide solutions to their problems.

Relevance is not what you enforce on people or what you wish for, it is a resultant effect of the works you put into place to create value for humanity. If there is nothing you can do to better the course of humanity, then there will be nothing of you for posterity to remember when you are gone.

You do not have to wait for you to have access to the entire resources in the world before you create value. Right from where you are, there must be something you can do to create impact and to affect lives positively - this is what creating value means.
