This is a popular adage in the part of the world where I grew up and when you look at it holistically, you will understand that what they are talking about is having a sense of mission. That is, having something that will be prompting you to take action as at when due. Your sense of mission is that very thing that motivates you and spurs you to take action. This is why you should create a destination in view before embarking on life's journey.

You can only receive the energy to perform a task if there is a task to perform in the first place. Without a goal or a task to perform, the energy will put into dormancy and before long, you will also go into a state of hibernation. You are absolutely responsible to create your own sense of mission according to your ability. The truth is; the success of your mission starts with you creating a mission. 

Have you ever wondered why it is even more tiring to stand at a point for long than to be moving? When moving, you have already created a sense of mission because you already have a destination in mind. What each step does is to take you closer to the destination you have created, so the energy expended during the movement is for a course. However, when you stand at a place without any destination in mind, weariness will set in and will create a negative energy around you.

If you have ever seen where houses are built, you will understand one thing. Right before anything will be done on the site, there must be a civil or architectural drawing. The idea of the drawing is to paint the end-result in pictures, so that it will give guidelines to the people that will build it.

No doubt, the procedure to build the house may vary from builder to builder but at the end, they will arrive at the same drawing that the architect had made. In the same way, the goal is the only thing that is meant to be fairly constant. Every other thing, including the procedures and the formats, should be tailored to suit the demands of the current situation.

For You to have motion in life, you must first create a mission that will give you the required force. It has been said that "if you do not define the reason of waking up, sleeping will become inevitable". In the same way, motion will be almost impossible if there is no mission.

The cure to stagnancy is to get busy with setting goals and going after them. When you hit the first goal, do not be too carried away with the celebration, work to improve on it and in so doing, the success of the first goal will not go into obsolescence.
