There are lots of things in life that happen beyond what you had imagined, which are also beyond your control. For example, the family you were born in, your background, your ethnicity, etc, are beyond your control. It is true that all these may shape not just parts of your journey, but may even influence your reality. However, you are the one to determine what you will become by the choices you make - including the choice of how you will respond to what has happened. When things happen that you do not expect, maybe something not too positive, do you bow down your head and sulk over it or will you choose to make something positive out of what looks like a negative occurrence? Your choice determines, to an extent, what you become.

Every human has been given a power to make choice, and inside this choice also lies the power to be transformed from a victim of circumstance into a victory of purpose. A lot of people may think that life is unfair or even cruel to them, and they constantly put themselves in a pitiable state, feeling like a victim, whereas they can become the victor of their life. Being a victim of life starts with the mindset of helplessness, feeling powerless, and even resorting to blaming someone or something else for what is happening to you. However, becoming a victor of purpose means rising up, overriding your negative thoughts with positive thoughts, then taking responsibility for your life.

It is worthy to note that you may not have stopped the circumstances of life, because some of them may be beyond your direct control. But you can choose to either remain a victim of it or rise up and become a victor. As a sailor, for example, when the storms beat against the boat, you will not just accept your fate and watch the boat capsize, rather you will direct your sail to balance the boat. In the same way in life, you do not just sit and watch things to happen the way they want while you become the victim, rather you need to understand that your choices are what matter, and will create your reality. Just to let you know, change begins with a choice - so do not make light of your choices.

Being a victor does not mean that you have a perfect life, neither does it mean that you are not faced with challenges nor does it deny the presence of unpalatable situations. However, in all these, you can still make a choice to rise. Trust me, a lot of other people have experienced far tougher times that you have not even thought about, but they still became victorious. You have to understand that your past trauma does not define your identity, rather it should refine it and make it better. You have to make a choice and a decision to live about what you are passing through and turn them to stepping-stone to achieve your dreams. If life throws bricks at you, you can make a choice of gathering the bricks to build a mansion out of them, not sitting and sulking over life.

Your journey from victim towards becoming a victor begins with a choice. For example, making a choice to save yourself instead of waiting for people to come and save you. Rising up again even when you have been beaten down instead of remaining where you have fallen. You will be surprised how the little choices and decisions you take today can change the outcome of your life. This is why I believe that, it is just a small percentage of your life that is determined by chance or by events, but a large percentage of it is determined by your choices and your decisions. The same event may happen to a lot of people in the same way and at the same time and they will all experience different results from it. The reason is simple; how they respond to the event and their choice of action will produce their results. Always remember that your life is basically a product of the sum total of your choices.
