Many people think that what they studied in school is the entirety of their lives. Well, just to let you know, your purpose in life may not even be related to what you studied in school. There is difference between vision and ambition. What you have passion for and what your zeal is may not even be remotely related to your course of study. This is why we have seen people deviating from their ambition to pursue their vision. Obviously, passion is greater than certificates.

If you are from this part of the world, you would have know about the name Seyi Olofinjana, who is a very renowned footballer with the senior national team. However, what many people may not know about him is that he is a Chemical Engineer by training and even has a masters degree, but here he is, playing football. He discovered that his passion is not related to what he studied. Actually, if he had continued on his former area of discipline, he would not have made as much impact as he does in football. This is just to tell you that one has to be able to discover their purpose to be able to function maximally in life.

Now the question that may come into mind is how to know one's purpose, that is how to discover what one has been built for. Now let's take them: The first point is passion. There is usually one thing that you have an undying passion for that normally drives you even when no one is motivating you to do it. While growing up, there was this particular guy that stayed in the place where I grew up. He was just passionate about the game of football. During the school break, he would organise other boys and they would play a quick football match. When he returned from school, they normally played street football; which they called "five aside."

His passion grew so much that everyone nicknamed him "Pele" after the legendary football star of the last century. If a day passes and his leg did not touch football, it would be as if he was missing a very vital part of his life. Even when a football was not available, he would improvise with anything that looked round. Everyone within the neighbourhood knew he would do well in the football profession. When he finished from secondary school, with the help of some locals, he was sent to the football academy. There, he proved himself worthy and beyond every doubt that he has what it takes to be a professional footballer.

Right in the academy, he was called up to represent the country at the under-17 tournament which Nigeria eventually went on to win. It marked a major breakthrough and turning point for him. It opened him up to the eyes of foreign-based clubs and that was how he was signed by one of them. All these were because of his passion - he followed after his passion. There is always an ease that comes when you do what you are passionate about; you tend to gain mastery in it than doing what you are forced to do or doing something because others are doing it. So your passion can point you to what you are built for, so as to help you discover your purpose.

Another way to discover your purpose is to discover what you do effortlessly and enjoy even if you do not train for it and even if you are not paid to do it. This can point you to what you are built for. For example; there was a friend of mine that had natural proclivity for humour.  Everything about him speaks humour. If you stay around him, even if you are sad, just a mere greeting from him would send smiles down your face. Even his face screams humour. He does not have difficulty with being humorous or to crack jokes. As a matter of fact, the same statement that others made, if he makes it, it would be like he is cracking joke. 

When he finished from secondary school, he went on to pursue a career in law and graduated with a very fine law degree, however at this moment, he is not practicing law. He discovered that he was actually built for comedy, not for the courtroom. Well, at this moment, he has made so much name in the comedy industry within the country than he may have made if he was inside the courtroom. He simply discovered his purpose from what he had ease of doing. So you see, whatever you like doing or have ease of doing may point you to the right direction in the discovery of your purpose.
