It is an interesting topic. When I was a graduate,  quite a few years ago now, I worked for a sugar company in North Africa.  It was a massive plantation and they had nearly 8,000 permanent staff on the plantation with another 8,000 seasonal workers who manually harvested the crops during the harvest season. 

Today, they use very expensive, GPS guided semi-automated harvesters.  Consequently, they have no seasonal work force and have cut the permanent work force by more than half.

Someone has got rich from it. So the technology is good but I am not sure if it always truly benefits the local people. Just another angle to consider as I do believe generally technology helps us all.

Under a context of knowing what is available at the moment, I would choose a mixed system, where apart from having the technology for agricultural work such as the tractor, also have manual secondary alternatives such as plowing with oxen for example.

I see high-tech and its alleged benefits as a myth. They cause mischief and damage, not only in nature, but also among us humans, who forget to think for ourselves and make us dependent on ever new machines. The error already exists in the antecedents of the so-called industrial age, namely that legions of workers were exploited to serve a privileged few and these legions were then made to believe that the machine, which henceforth did the hard physical work for the common man, was a blessing for his existence. The peasant worker was never left in peace to go about his day's work, namely to provide for himself and his own in small communities. Now to say that high-tech agricultural machinery is a blessing for these people is like saying how wonderful it is that the plague has been replaced by cholera. 
All the things that are sown and harvested on the huge mono-planted fields, and the long-term effects, are only not given much attention because there are hardly any people left who work these fields and see the real effects with their own eyes. That's how it is with us: if we are not eyewitnesses, we don't perceive the extent of destruction and uncultivation. 

Yet it should be obvious to every child that the total alienation of countless people who are only capable of operating computers, machines and other technological "achievements" are easy prey because they have no idea of self-sufficiency.

They pride themselves on their operational competencies, namely the operation of combine harvesters and impressive agricultural machinery, but have zero knowledge about soil quality, microbiology and the interaction of ecosystems. All that the high-tech agribusiness industry ends up with is container after container of increasingly inferior food, with no regard for biological, geological and social impacts. 

Focusing on growing cities surrounded by land that is not habitable, huge monoculture fields that leach the soil, are susceptible to all sorts of diseases and insects and need to be treated with drugs and pesticides, produces susceptible people who need to be treated and then thank modern technology for having hospitals that work on the same principle as crowded chicken coops - with some semblance of altruism. 

Preaching the blessing of the progress yet to come does not hide the fact that all progress is turning us into ever greater cripples of our own existence: cowards, fearful, constantly risk-avoiding, believing that all living things are already understood or can only "not yet" be understood - and thus controlled.

Indeed, the implementation of agricultural machinery is a complement to increase production, and thus help feed millions of people, however, I believe that should be allocated a rational use of agricultural machinery and implements, implementing tactics that do not undermine the balance of the soil.

One of the best benefits of innovation is agriculture, since it is a millennial activity in the history of humanity. For our reality, we are looking for new technology that can be applied in this life free of contaminating damages.
