Most times, the conflict that manifests on the outside is a reflection of the conflict from within. This is why it will be difficult to overcome interpersonal conflict (conflict involving two or more people) until you have settled intrapersonal conflict (that's the conflict within). There are many conflicts you need to settle within you so as to have peace.

First of all, there is a need to settle and forgive yourself for errors of the past so that it will not affect your future negatively. The truth is, you need to revisit the past, not to dwell there, but to settle with the past to avoid your future from being haunted by what you can easily avoid. You have to realize the fact that your past errors have been made and cannot be corrected. Maturity is learning to accept what you cannot change. Since you cannot change history, maturity demands that you move on.

It is important to note that, when you forgive yourself over your past errors, you do not mark the errors as being okay but it only signifies that you are mature enough to let go and to chart a new course for yourself. The ultimate peace is the one that comes from within and from the knowledge that your past errors have nothing against your glorious future. Believe me, the only bridge and relationship between history and future is the present. If you spend the whole of your present to think about the past, then you cannot effectively feature in your future.

The reason you have to make peace with yourself is simple, you can only give to others from the abundance of what you possess. If you do not possess inner peace, how do you hope to be at peace with other? If everyone will work towards maintaining inner peace, then the conflict in the world will be almost won because you will not have problem to relate peaceable with others.
