There are some challenges that many people are facing which can easily be solved by the application of common sense. There is a reason why we are gifted with brains - to use them to think. Wishing is good and hoping is also good, but a point will come when the answer to a particular question will be just to put common sense to work. For example, if you are feeling cold on a cold night, you do not have to wish or wait for the cold to go away so that you will feel better, you can simply get a blanket to cover up yourself or look for thick clothes to wear. This is common sense.

It is good to be educated, yes because it makes you more open-minded and also increases your knowledge-base. However, experiences are very instrumental to increasing common sense and of course, you cannot get that by flipping through the pages of a book. As you gain experiences in life, you will discover that your proclivity to solve on-the-spot problems and make tactical slip-second decision will increase. I remember many years back, the freezer that we used then, a point came when the inner bulb got dead, so it was removed but was never replaced. One day, I became curious and I put my finger inside the buld holder and I had some nasty electrical shock. After that experience, common sense told me to replace back the bulb. At least it was better to have a dead bulb there to fill in the space than to leave it naked and stand the risk of getting an electric shock again.

There are some educated people that if they act, you would tend to question their education and there are others that are not well educated but with experiences and if they act, you will see a high application of common sense. In life, most times, the solution to a particular problem is not far from the problem itself but sometimes you may just require the application of common sense. If you are going out on a cloudy day with an anticipated heavy downpour, it is common sense that will tell you that you should have your umbrella or a raincoat in case rain starts to fall. The truth is, if we will be able to apply common sense, we will be surprised how little our problems are. It is worthy to note that common sense is without recourse to emotions and it is not sentimental.

Sometimes people just decide to go against their common sense because of emotion or how they feel and at the end, they will face the consequences. A friend of mine that recently broke up with her boyfriend was sharing with me some shocking revelation about how her relationship went and what he passed through in the hands of her boyfriend. When discussing, she make this statement; "I saw this at the beginning but I never paid much attention to it." It was at this point that I realized that the signs were there from the beginning but she chose to go with feelings and sentiments, and she had her sense of judgement beclouded while abandoning her common sense. More often than not, applying common sense may be all that we need to prevent a bigger evil.

As much as hoping is good, and as much as praying is good, there is also what you need to do yourself. It is weird when I see people believe that praying can do everything and anything. Well, just to let you know, there are things that can only get done by the application of common sense. Prayer may deliver to you an orange, but to get the juice from the orange, you have to apply common sense to know that you have to squeeze it, otherwise you will just be staring at the orange unending. The truth is that, every human that is born is actually gifted with a degree of common sense but its application is entirely dependent on the person.

Even when we interact with people and in our relationships, you need to employ common sense. For example, you may have something to say, which may be the right thing to say, but there is still a right way to say it, otherwise you may end up blowing everything up and it will be counterproductive. This is why, even though everyone has common sense, but its application is uncommon. To apply common sense, you have to stabilise your emotions, then trust your judgement and perception. In conclusion, it is worthy to note that the outcome of your life is basically a result of how you respond to the events of your life and not necessarily the events themselves. So use your common sense.
