Wearing A Good Appearance: Your Sense Of Dressing
<div class="text-justify">

Before anyone will get to interact with you to know what is inside of you, they will first create an impression of your from the way you appear. As a matter of fact, how people relate with you can be vaguely linked to your appearance and the way you dress. Your appearance can either attract people to you or repel people from you, so you should be cautious of that.

More often than not, the way people address you can be linked to the manner in which you are dressed. The truth is, communication goes way beyond what your voice alone can express. Sometimes, even your dressing and your appearance can be a very communication tool and can send strong messages to someone. The first impression you create with your appearance may become indelible in the mind of the person because it matters very well, so do not be causal with your appearance.

In this part of the world, there are 3 major ethnic groups and each of these ethnic groups has a characteristic pattern of dressing. If a Northerner (Hausa) dresses, you will observably distinguish him from a Westerner (Yoruba). I remember a particular time that I wore an Hausa traditional attire to a friend's occasion even though I am not from the North. As soon as I entered the occasion, the person I met at the entrance started speaking Hausa language to me without bothering to communicate in our Lingua Franca (English). The reason is that he had already assumed that I'm from the North because of what my dressing suggested.

The reason why people normally dress corporately when going for a job interview is so as to create a good first impression in the sight of his potential employer. Most times, they will firstly access you by your appearance before they get to know what you have. I remember a few years back, there was a particular comment that a friend once made in relation to dressing for an interview. He said and I quote:

> When dressing for an interview, you need to dress in line with the job you want, not for the job that you already have.

Imagine someone that is already employed in the informal sector but going for a job interview in the banking sector, he will not dress informally but formally because of the job he wishes to get. That is how powerful dressing can be. The human mind is conditioned in such a way that it is drawn to the outwards appearance. The mind normally attaches attributes to people's appearance, so you should dress well.

Just to let you know: dressing well does not mean doing something that you cannot afford or draining your wallet to go for designer wears. It is possible to dress well with cheap and affordable clothes. Also, it is possible to dress grossly irresponsible even with expensive designer outfits. So dressing well is without recourse to the cost of the clothes. For every occasion, there should be an outfit that is suitable for it, and tilting from it may mean not dressing well. Imagine wearing a designer outfit that is meant for dinner party to go for bank interview. Your dressing should fall in line with the way that you want to be addressed and with the kind of impression you want to create.
