There is only one thing that has the ability to overcome evil and that is goodness. When you bring in another evil in the face of evil, you will end up having a multiplied evil, but when you introduce goodness, the prevailing evil will begin to diminish. If someone does something ill to you and you return the ill with another ill, what you just proved to the person is that you are not different from them. However, when you bring in goodness as a repayment to evil, you will make a difference.

A few days ago, I engaged a friend of mine in a little discussion. In the course of the discussion, he kept lamenting about the ills in the government and whatnot but he failed to realize that we are still part of the government or at least, part of the people that will be in government tomorrow. We should start to be good from ourselves and when we get to the position of power tomorrow, our humanity will not be lost.

You will agree with me that there is an inner feeling of goodness that normally erupts when you do good to others - the joy in the inside will be indescribable but it cannot be denied. On the other hand, when you do evil to someone and you suddenly bump into them, you heart will jump a couple of beats and guilt will be written all over you heart. You see, for the sake of your peace, goodness should be the only option.

Some people tend to believe that the human mind is conditioned in such a way that makes people to quickly react negatively or badly to bad situations. Well, that may be so, but how will a bad reaction improve an already bad situation. You can, however, consciously rewire your mind to react positively. At first, it may look like a mountainous task but if you keep at it, it will become part of you and you will not have problems reacting positively to negative situations.

There is something worth noting: Being good or being bad is not inherited, it is acquired as a product of choice. That is, the people that are good are so, not because they were born with goodness but because they made a choice to be good. Same also applies to the people we see as bad, they chose the path of badness.

When you start today to practise goodness, a point will come when your whole life will begin to radiate goodness. More so, if people mark you out for goodness, you will not find it difficult to have favour before them. Believe me, the person with a good heart is always preferred more than the person with a rough attitude. Your physical appearance may open a few doors for you but to keep the doors open, you need more than just your physical appearance - you need your heart too: a good heart.

When you set your heart to do good, do it without recourse to what you expect people to do for you. More so, your goodness will be complete when it is done to all and not some. You do not have to wait for others to do good to you first for it to serve as a motivation to do good. In this world that is already ladened with ills and evils, it is only goodness that can be used to win the battle against evil.
