Many people do not feel the need to pay attention to the way they dress. The truth is, dressing goes way beyond just wearing clothes. There is often a psychology attached to dress which goes beyond just putting on materials. That is, our interactions with our environment, with one another, and with ourselves can be affected by our dressing.

It is worthy to note that people do not just dress to cover their nakedness, most times, there are intentions and reasons attached to it. Even you yourself, you will observe that there is a certain cloth that you will wear and it will trigger a certain behaviour in you. More so, there is always a sense of feeling that people normally attach to the clothes they wear. Behavioural attachment to dressing also goes beyond the wearer to others that interact with them. This is why this popular phrase has it that:

> You are addressed how you are dressed.

There are some people that when you see them, because of how they are dressed, you will be cautious how you talk to them. A few years back, I was invited for an occasion, so I decided to wear a particular attire from the Northern part of Nigeria even though I'm not a Northerner. It was surprising that the people I met there, instead of interacting with me in the Lingua Franca, they started off with the Hausa language. The reason was that my dressing had already made them to believe that I am a Northerner.

You see, your dressing has a way of leaving a statement in the minds of the people you come in contact with. How people relate with you is also dependent on your appearance and that has a lot to do with your dressing. If you dress goodly, people will relate with you goodly. The truth is, as humans, people are very much moved to judge others based on what their physical senses can detect.

For every occasion or function, there is usually a dress suitable for it and you need to know the difference. This is why, dress itself is not the challenge but the sense of dressing. Wearing a right dress to a wrong occasion will make the dressing wrong. For example, when you want to attend an interview, it is always expected that you will dress corporately. Obviously, you have to dress in anticipation for the job that you want to get, and not dressing from the job you had before.

Some people may think that dressing well means going beyond their finances to get the best attire. Well, just to let you know, you can still dress well with cheap clothes and someone else can dress badly with an expensive cloth; it is only about your sense of dressing. More so, you do not have to put strain on your pocket to go for designers clothes. Even with the generic ones, you can look good.

To dress well, you must first learn to value yourself and your personality. The value that you have given to yourself is a very strong determinant of how well you consciously take care of every aspects of yourself. I always tell people that there are ways people communicate with others without the use of words. Well, the truth is, people also have a way of communicating with dress. This is the reason you should not be careless when it comes to the way you dress.
