## Since coming to Australia I have been introduced to a lot of things and to be honest, I am not sure how I will survive without them being readily available when I return to the states.

### Here are some amazing Aussie-esque things that I am in love with and unsure how I did without:

# Electric kettle.

The most amazing invention I didn't even know existed.

It boils 1.75 liters of water in mere minutes.

Until I came to Australia, I was boiling water on the stove for tea like a heathen. I dare not to even mention all the times I microwaved my water.

I think if Sammosk saw me do this now, it would be the end of our relationship. And I can't blame him one bit.

### Bonus Tip: The fastest way to anger an Aussie and lose kettle privileges is to cook ramen in the kettle. I learned this the hard way. Don't... just don't.

# Sun screen that actually works.

As a redhead, I am especially susceptible to the damaging rays of the sun. I cannot tell you how many times I have been burnt to a reddened crisp when beach going in the US.

I would reapply 50+ every 40 minutes.
Burnt.

70+.
Still burnt.

LIQUID LEAD.
Slightly less burnt, but still burnt.

In Australia, they do not fuck around with it comes to UV protection. And for good reason. Two out of three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer before they are 70. Australia and New Zealand have the highest death rates associated with melanoma in the world.

Their 50 SPF, even though it states to reapply every 40-ish minutes, lasts all day seemingly.

# BBQ sauce available right next to the tomato sauce at every single establishment and home. Also, the tomato sauce.

I have always loved BBQ sauce and all condiments, but Australian BBQ sauce is something really special. I don't even know what it is that makes it so.

The flavor profile just goes... with everything. Chips, chicken, meat pies, steak, burgers, veggies...

I've touched on the difference between ketchup and tomato sauce before. I can't go back to ketchup, man. I can't.

Also, peppercorn gravy. Oh god, their gravies.

And garlic aioli on all the things.

I hope amazon carries Aussie condiments.

# Meat pies.

These are meal pastries made by the old gods. They are blessed and filled with all things wholesome and delicious. Even when cooked in a microwave, the crust stays firm.

I saw an electric meat pie maker. I very well may be purchasing one to hold close to my chest on my return flight.

A life without meat pies isn't worth living.

# Weird, tasty snacks.

All the flavors and tasty tidbits out there is mindboggling. I have been here for going on three months and have barely made a dent in trying all of the delicious things available in woolies alone.

Curry flavors.
Sweet chili flavors.
Cheese flavors that are based on REAL CHEESES.

The premade coffee and milk drinks.

They have minty chocolate milk, guys. WHAT EVEN IS THIS COUNTRY AND WHY WASN'T I BORN HERE?!

# The difference in fast food.

Normally, when you go to Mcdonald's or Burger King in the states, it is the walk of shame. You hang your head, put on a baggy hoodie, and attempt to avoid running into people you know as you shove tons of greasy, cheap food in your face hole.

And you feel disgusting for a solid day and a half afterward.

In Australia, it still isn't the BEST food, but... it is still good and so much better than what can be gotten stateside.

The menu selections are insane, and the staples that I knew and loved have been completely transformed.

I am unsure I will enjoy a whopper from Burger King nearly as much now that I've had one from Hungry Jacks.

The same applies for Big Macs.
