La Casa del Caracol es una película de terror y suspenso co-producida entre España, México y Perú, protagonizada por Javier Rey y Paz Vega, que nos cuenta la historia de Antonio Prieto, un escritor que se traslada a una casa en un pueblo remoto y casi desconocido con el fin de inspirarse para escribir una nueva novela, mientras queda intrigado por el extraño comportamiento de los habitantes del pueblo y su temor a una extraña leyenda. 

Como buena película de suspenso, La Casa del Caracol capta tu atención desde los primeros minutos, a la vez que presenta distintos elementos que tendrán repercusiones sobre el protagonista a medida que avanza la historia, dando lugar a un guión circular y muy bien concebido donde todo tiene una razón de existir. Otro gancho lo representa su protagonista, un personaje brusco y poco refinado del cual siempre quieres saber más y del que se revelarán oscuros secretos. Y gran parte de la tensión se la debemos a la buena construcción de la cultura y las supersticiones que aterrorizan al pueblo donde transcurre la acción, que de por sí ya se presenta como un lugar poco amigable o receptivo con el protagonista. Estos sentimientos se ven reflejados en el apartado visual de la película, donde abundan los claroscuros, así como los planos y movimientos de cámara que generan angustia e incertidumbre en el espectador. 

Desafortunadamente para La Casa del Caracol, su final se ve venir desde muy lejos, siendo muy similar a muchos giros “inesperados” demasiadas veces vistos. Sin embargo, cumple con lo que promete ser: una experiencia incómoda e intrigante, gracias a los misterios que plantea y su atmósfera oscura.

The House of the Snail is a horror and suspense film co-produced by Spain, Mexico and Peru, starring Javier Rey and Paz Vega, which tells the story of Antonio Prieto, a writer who moves to a house in a remote and almost unknown village in order to be inspired to write a new novel, while he is intrigued by the strange behavior of the villagers and their fear of a strange legend. 

As a good thriller, The House of the Snail captures your attention from the first minutes, while presenting different elements that will have repercussions on the protagonist as the story progresses, giving rise to a circular and very well conceived script where everything has a reason to exist. Another hook is represented by its protagonist, a brusque and unrefined character about whom you always want to know more and about whom dark secrets will be revealed. And much of the tension is due to the good construction of the culture and superstitions that terrorize the village where the action takes place, which in itself is already presented as a place unfriendly or receptive to the protagonist. These feelings are reflected in the visual section of the film, where chiaroscuro abounds, as well as shots and camera movements that generate anguish and uncertainty in the viewer. 

Unfortunately for The House of the Snail, its ending is a long time coming, being very similar to many "unexpected" twists too often seen. However, it delivers what it promises to be: an uncomfortable and intriguing experience, thanks to the mysteries it poses and its dark atmosphere.
