Failed To Follow Through My Word

When we make a promise, we are making a statement that we are going to uphold the things that we say, whether it is in how we behave ourselves or take specific action. That the word that leaves our mouth will be followed through with actions. At least, that is how it should be, because failing to do so could end up hurting the feelings of the person to whom we made the promise and breaking their trust, or at worst, ruin our relationships.

However, as humans, we cannot be perfect at all times, so no matter how hard we try, there is no way that we can keep every promise that we make. Sometimes, we accidentally make multiple promises at the same time, but since we only have one body, we prioritize which promise to fulfill, thus breaking the rest. Sometimes, we are not really committed to what we say, but were forced to make a promise either way in order to not hurt the persons feelings. This will go back to a reply I made in a previous [topic](https://peakd.com/hive-153850/@saydie/when-is-it-okay-to-lie) that I wrote.

There are also times when, even though we want to keep our word to the person to whom we made a promise, outside factors prevent us from making it. Like, for example, I made a promise to a friend to meet at the park today, but suddenly, it started raining. Unless we're both OK with being wet, there's no way we could meet at the park, thus breaking my promise. Otherwise, we will need to change the location. Well, something similar happened to me years ago when I broke my promise to my friend to be there on his wedding day.

Way back in 2023, I got an invitation from one of my college friends for his wedding with his long-time girlfriend, who is also one of our classmates. Of course, as someone who knows both of them, I was really happy for them and wanted to witness that once-in-a-lifetime moment for them, and so I gave my word to him that I would be there on the wedding day. So to prepare for the event, I immediately filed a leave request to my company for the week that the wedding will be held, as well as to rent a suit that I will wear. So far, everything has gone as planned until the week of the wedding. However, the day before the wedding, I got injured in both of my knees, called [Pes anserine bursitis](https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/pes-anserine-bursitis), which I got while I was jogging. As a result, not only can I not walk properly, but even just standing makes it very painful on my knee, and because I can't move, going to the wedding becomes impossible, thus breaking my promise to my friend. My struggle does not end there because it takes two months for my injury to fully recover, but since I need to return to my work, I was forced to use crutches just so I could walk.


The day after the wedding, I immediately called my friend to apologize and explain the situation. After hearing what happened to me, he just laughed it off and said that instead of apologizing, I should be congratulating him, and was glad that nothing serious happened to me. He also said that if I really feel bad about it, make sure to be there for the Christening when the time comes that they got a child, and be sure to prepare the best gift for them. I'm not sure about the best gift, but I gave him my word that when that time comes, I will surely be there.

Something I want to add, last month, my friends and I made plans to go to a [concert](https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1231561342099216&set=pcb.1231561385432545) since it was held during the Independence Day which is a holiday, making all of us free. However, as I was on my way to the venue, my friends said that they had changed their minds and decided to stay home since it might rain, given that it had already rained earlier that day and the clouds remained dark throughout the concert, breaking their promise to me. Well, I may be a little bit disappointed with them, but the night was really fun with lots of bands performing, and I also met new people as well as got to listen to one of my favorite local bands. Also, it did not rain at all during the concert, and their fear just resulted in missing a fantastic night.

Since we are just humans, we cannot always follow through with our promises, but at the same time, we should not use it as an excuse to break one. What we need to do is to always think it through first before we commit to something. And in case that you have unintentionally broken a promise due to outside circumstances, apologize and explain yourself properly to prevent any chances of ruining your relationships. 

On that note, today is Hive Power Up Day, and as part of my goal, I made a promise to participate in every HPUD this year. This time, since the price of Hive is quite low, I decided to buy 100 Hive to power it up.

Yes, a promise is a debt so you have to keep it, at least there is an effort to keep it, but some people after making a promise don't pay attention to it anymore as if the promise is just an excuse to be able to achieve something, people like this should be left behind.
