Turns out the U.S. is manufacturing more goods than ever before.  
### Hooray! - Right?

Well, no not exactly.  More manufacturing does not mean more jobs.  Manufacturing in the U.S. is growing by roughly 2 percent per year.  Manufacturing jobs are growing anemically compared to that.

### So what gives? 
Robotics and automation is the reason. 

A study by Ball State University shows that it would take 8 million more employees to produce as much today compared to just 15 years ago.

So the good news is automation and robotics have taken productivity and efficiency levels through the roof over the past couple decades.   This trend only looks to accelerate. 

The bad news is people in that industry should look for a career change.

“The real robotics revolution is ready to begin” writes BCG and predicts that “the share of tasks that are performed by robots will rise from a global average of around 10% across all manufacturing industries today to around 25% by 2025.”  [Source: Fortune.com](fortune.com/2016/11/08/china-automation-jobs/)

### Conclusion

The scadeycatguide thinks those in manufacturing jobs should perform some due dilligence to ensure their job is safe from near-term automation or start working on plan B.
