I think your post is probably the 4th I have read in the last day or two about spam.  It is a huge problem - I even get turned off of posting sometimes or looking for good content.

There is too much plagerism and too much asking for votes and self promotion.

I too am tired of it.  I try to stop it when I see it too.  But as you say most of them are bots and therefore they aren't hearing us.

I wish it were that simple.  People being people will lash out if they feel centred out unfairly (in their minds).   I don't like to have arguments with these people because ultimately they always get in the last word.  I don't have enough steem power to be able to flag them so I depend a lot on @steemcleaners.  

The Steemit platform needs to be treated like self employment and investment.  Balanced with social skills.  It's not FB for pay.  

Can you imagine in the real world someone attending a business meeting where a presentation is delivered and interrupting the meeting to promote their agenda? or their business?  They would be asked to leave, never invited back and their reputation would be ruined.

I always try to upvote good comments. I think rewarding really good comments will inspire other readers to improve and put more time into it. I just ignore those "I really liked this post and learned a lot, please follow and upvote" comments.

True..! In spanish, the spam has become a problem, despite the efforts of witnesses like @cervantes who together with his team tries to control the abusers, and I think the key is how fast the steemit community has grown and those of people who want to earn money without hard work..! Greetings..!

Well I do not change my behaviour at all on the platform. I always want to discuss matters and I’m not easily convinced about anything. Sometimes people get but hurt, sometimes they just choose to ignore me, and occasionally a great discussion occurs. Over all it seems like people want to have their anuses licked here (even in real life people prefer to hear sweet talks instead of pondering logical discussions). Anyway Steemit is one of the best places for great discussions. It’s much harder to find regular support with such an attitude though.

I agree you. I just don't get why people so little care what the impression they leave. To post the same two words under every post is not understanding  how it works on your reputation, on your brand. I think we should ignore every spam comment. No one will want to follow spamming member, to support him. It's time to understand that if we are adult people. And this is a problem not only in Steemit, it is going in all other social sites that reward members for activity.

Hi @schattenjaeger, this is your first post  I read and I found  it interesting.
In my opinion "my post my rules"  would apply perfectly to your post and would be a perfect rule for everyone.
You can not ban bot or spam in advance, but cleaning  your posts  comments you'd do a service to real reader. 
Sometimes users comment with a bunch of emoji or with one or two words only. It is up to you as moderator to decide who you prefer as reader.

I do understand what you mean.  I made a mistake,  I wanted to get attention to my contest, so started following resteembots, so I could resteem my blog. But it is not satisfying at all. In my feed I find no one anymore that I wanted to follow. So now I am unfollowing al the resteembots.  And when I reply to any post I will sign with the tag of my contest, in the hope that I get peoples attention.  But I do like the vote bots!  :-)  I just do not know where to find them.  Just getting jealous on people with a reputation of 30 that post a picture and get like 70 dollar on it.  Sometimes worth it, sometimes I think; You say whatttt???   Now is real jealousy not in my dictionary but I do feel like how for the fuck has she or he done that?  I just started following you, en het is me een genoegen je te leren kennen.  #thepinkrabbit

people simply cannot just come to steemit without a lead and by lead I mean some kind of a welcome panphlet, a 3 "must" do things before steeming being witness voting to curie, following major influencer and last but not least joining and following the "spaminator" , sherlockholmes, steemcleaners etc etc... that's how you can at least expect a drop in spam when people get awarded by exposing spammers...doing these "steps" right off joining steemit should not only be awarded by even a complimentary vote but also should set the lead of what steemit is about and not...I am talking like a gorgeous pop out welcome card with these 3 steps pointed out to kick the steemit ourney off...it can be what I said above or anything else but there must be something...think when you join facebook or any site for the first time they will give you tips overlayed on your screen to get started and steps to follow...a "get started" interactive module ...FAQ is good and all but who got time for it! tooo many non spammers, lost, turned to spam as last chance to make a buck...

This is where we can use the downvote very effectively. I usually downvote a spam comment, then reply explaining why I did it and maybe give some tips, then if they reply saying they are sorry, I will upvote their reply. Punish the bad, teach correct principles and reward the good.

One thing I noticed is that a lot of people make an article called How new users can earn money, or anyone can earn money.

It is the biggest delusion people are creating.

Steemit is a platform where everyone can pursue their interest and get rewarded for it.

If you become good in your interest, you will never depend on a single platform.

That's the best thing about steemit, it gives people an opportunity to grow easily and fast in their interests.

But the ones, who relate steemit with only money are the biggest spammers and creating more like them every day.

Good post - but like you said, the spammers aren't reading it!

I wish more people would have this view. 

I have not problem with it, personally.  It's good to exchange views, even argue. 

It's a process that is best enjoyed, not frowned upon.

There are _way_ to many sensitive echo chambers here.

Where offending someone because you question their view or logic, it sets off a tirade of abusive replies.

In of itself, it's no big deal... _but_ do it to the wrong people with lots of power - and you can kiss all your rewards on other posts, goodbye....

For some (i.e me) you have to be careful, as i cannot afford to lose rewards because someone has a childish 'hissy fit' when I disagree with them...

I think that's the real important thing is to comment as if there weren't votes or money involved. Genuine comments are the best thing. I can't stand the flood of spammers everytime the price peaks.

You are 100% right with that statement. Some comments lately are reducing my intelligence level just by reading them. I don't know how to fix this, maybe I'll make a shit comment compilation vol2 :)

The easiest way I've been able to tell if someone's comment is genuine is by going to their profile real quick and checking their comment history. Usually if they left a spam comment on your post they just left the same generic comment on 100 other posts right there.

I respond to some of the pointless comments suggesting they try something more genuine and some do respond. I don't check whether they have really learned anything. Some of them will get flagged if I see that's all they do. I have some hope our efforts will improve matters, but a flood of new users could make it hard to cope.

We need a better search for steemit and the ability to bookmark our top favourites we follow ... along with the ability to remove users posts that we have no interest in or consider spam...I find it hard to sort through the spam and crap..  also one mans crap is another's gold  so the search has to be filtered for the individuals interests ... Steem just needs a few more features to help one avoid the things they don't want to waste time on ...
