Proof of Brain Update - Voting Governance and New Changes

One argument continuously debated on virtually all layers of the Hive ecosystem has been that of voting.  This article intends to discuss an area for improvement within the Proof of Brain tribe that revolves around voting governance.  A goal is to promote a balance with voting that currently does not exist within this community.

# Article Inspiration

Inspiration for this article came from a discussion I had with @proofofbrainio and @memeisfun on the POB discord.  POB mentioned that he wanted to use his voting power to counter downvotes.  However, he has the same problem everyone else has when they want to enact change.  

<center>There is no time to sort through everything.</center><center>We need help!</center>

How do we identify those articles receiving a downvote?  How can people communicate someone downvoted their writing in the Proof of Brain Community?  The people of this community have expressed a need that those with a stake in the platform must address.  

Proof of Brain exists on the Hive ecosystem, but it did not possess a counter-DV service for the POB-token that exists for Hive until now.

#### Potential Solution
The Proof of Brain Discord has a new channel called Voting Review.  If you feel you've received a Downvote in error:
1. Add a link to an article you wish to have reviewed.
2. State why you believe the article needs a counter-DV.
3.  At this time, we should only look at articles who have had all their rewards removed (opinion).
3. POB, or anyone else for that matter, should review the entry, make their decision, and apply their upvotes as necessary to counter the DV.  

While the whales of POB will have the most significant impact regarding a counter-DV here, community support **is also highly** desired.  It's difficult, if not impossible, to continue a project without community support.  Anyone who has tried running a contest or pursued other ventures on Hive can attest to this fact.

#### Recommendations
Would you please comment in the remarks below if you have any other ideas about countering votes in the Proof of Brain Community?  I welcome good or bad comments.  I only ask that you keep it professional.  

I feel there could be different approaches here, but this is the most viable for now.  For example, it would be easier to report them to a familiar location where a larger group can review the article.  It's much more difficult to scroll through hundreds of articles to counter a DV.

# Why Counter a Downvote?

The Hive blogging platform utilizes counters to bring some level of balance.  Hive and POB use the downvote as a means to counter posts rewarded as a result of abuse.  

For example, in Proof of Brain, when I encounter a plagiarized article, I notify the author, remove the rewards down to zero, and ask for help if needed.  If the author corrects the article and informs me, I'll review and remove the downvote.  My downvote is a counter against the rewards of plagiarized writing.  The justification I provide for the DV acts to notify the community that the downvote was deliberate and researched.  

<center>What if I didn't plagiarize my article?</center><center>What if someone DV's my article because they felt I made too much?</center>

In the overrewarded case, you can submit your article for the redemption of POB rewards.  If we agree, then we counter.  The counter should at least be high enough to negate the downvote.  

#### Gap in POB Capabilities
Until now, the Proof of Brain community did not have a balance to voting.  Hive has the Freeze Peach initiative that allows users to submit their articles for a counter-DV to negate the reward removal.  Such a service didn't exist for us.

@proofofbrainio is working hard to deliver us a [new POB outpost](https://peakd.com/hive-150329/@proofofbrainio/pob-update-new-tribe-2-0-site-dao-and-nfts-and-beneficiary-increase-for-outside-apps).  [Aggroed and his team of developers](https://peakd.com/hive-engine/@aggroed/outpost-alpha-nearly-ready) created many new features.  According to POB's discussions on Discord, we should be ready in a couple of weeks to start transitioning.

It feels great to know that the top and influential users on this platform has the interest of everyone in mind, gradually build the platform to 100% decentralization. 

This is like giving every downvotes a second chance and the Author a chance to prove that he or she hasn’t plagiarized.

 How ever  if the post gets reviewed and the majority decides that the post is worthy of being downvoted, then it gets ignored.

Wow, I am amazed and impressed with this new development of countering downvotes when it was done mistakenly or probably done in the wrong way, maybe out of jealousy or incessant reasons.

Sorry I haven't been around enough.  It's the best recommendation I could give.  I wish there was more community support around this topic.  Ideally, it would be great for some kind of alert that goes out letting groups know when a significant DV occurs.  It seems like they drop too close to the 7-day window intentionally with little time to respond.

...they do leave it a lot of the time until the close of the window,, intentionally. That's what malicious down voters _do_.

That's what the system allows. 
That's DPoS with downvoting.

The sooner people come to realize that trying to put on varying shades of lipstick, doesn't alter the fact that it's a governance pig - designed _by_ people who want the power (and to hold onto it)- for whatever reasons.
I used to think it was purely greed, but now I'm thinking it is far more ideological.

I will delegate all of my POB to anyone who is countering Curangel or Az. These bias witness affiliates are toxic and I am leaving hive because of them, revoking my endorsements across the internet.

If you fork off Hive, i would consider invest $10,000 USDt into POB. When i say fork, i mean AZ and Curangel wont have accounts like Justin Sun.

Thanks so much @scholaris for this beautiful updates about downvotings on POB. All my support to the growth of the community is my priority. 
A post having a chance to defend a DV encounter shows that everyone shares a proof in the brain. Therefore, the leader gave the opportunity to defend the reasons of a DV on a post. I means it’s very wonderful I must say. Thank you for sharing.

We're just getting started.  However, please understand the point of this isn't presenting an opinion that downvoting is bad.  It's presenting a position that there is a gap in POB voting governance.  If Hive is implementing a similar technique, then so should POB.  

However, it is up to the POB community to utilize the service.  I can't be the only person recommending links for a DV counter.  It's pointless otherwise.

Personally, I think tipping rather than (or in addition to) upvoting might be a better way to counter "erroneous" downvoting.

The reason for that is, when you upvote a downvoted post, you are throwing away a sizable portion of your curation rewards (50% if you exactly counter the amount of the DV).  For the curation rewards you are going to be throwing away, why not just tip the author directly instead (or even tip a bit more, to signal to the DV'er that every time they DV, they will actually be indirectly *adding* to the perceived 'over-reward')?

There are really two issues at play when it comes to countering an erroneous DV:
1. Restoring author rewards to the author who was downvoted.
2. Restoring curation rewards to the prior upvoters (i.e. those who upvoted in good faith, because they genuinely valued what the author had to say).

Upvoting the post the full amount of the DV does both, but only partially when it comes to #2 (50%).  However, it cuts your own curation rewards in half.  So, it might be best to [1] tip the author half the amount of the lost author rewards (which would equal your would-be lost curation rewards) while [2] compiling a list of the curators who had their curation rewards zeroed, then [3] go out of your way to upvote future posts by the original author and the curators *more so than you otherwise would have*, in order to bring everyone back to wholeness (or, as mentioned above *beyond wholeness*, to make the DV'er complicit in supporting that which he/she is trying to subvert).

I never considered tipping.  I imagine this would come from your own liquid stake versus from community funds, but it's definitely an option for me at this time.  

All your other points have merit.  They should be attempted and I'm willing to give it a shot.  We just need people to be active about it or it won't work.  There's no way I can sit for hours looking for downvoted articles without other people doing something similar.  The feed is much to big for me alone.
