***Experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences want to build an underwater base that will be run solely by artificial intelligence.***

The scientists want the base to become the first AI colony on Earth and it should be used for research purposes. They want it the be placed in the South China Sea and it should be somewhere between 6000 – 11000 meters deep but the exact spot hasn’t been decided yet. The energy will be provided by cables coming from either a ship with a generator or a sea platform. Similarly to the International Space Station, this base will have docking platforms. From those robotic submarines will depart and search the oceans analyzing minerals or finding new life forms. 

It will likely come as no surprise that this will not be cheap. The estimated costs are around 160 million dollars. On the other hand, that money could be regain in huge numbers over time because – and this may be an amazing fact for some – but we have so far only explored only about 1 % of the oceans floor surface.
