 When we gobble down food we are often unaware of what goes on in our bodies. Now, I am no Mr. Good Body. We gobble the food down we create more food energy. Some of this energy will be stored away for later. The key hormone that is part of the storage and use of it is called insulin. This rises up during meal times. Both carbs and protein produce insulin. Healthy dietary fats produce smaller amounts of insulin, and they are rarely eaten all by their lonesome selves. Insulin has two functions that are primary. 1. It allows the body to use the energy right away. 2. Carbs are absorbed then turned into glucose. This raises blood sugar up. Insulin allows glucose to enter the cells then later used for energy. Proteins are broken down into amino acids and absorbed or mal-absorbed then the excess aminos may be transformed into glucose. Protein does not raise glucose, but it does raise insulin levels. This is a variable effect that usually shocks people when they learn about it. Hangry happens when the glucose go down. If you are considering fasting (not starvation) it may help you, but with one idea in mind. That idea is that you should have fats to sustain you. 1. Natural healthy fats will support you and prevent hangry. 2. Reduce sugar 3. Eat natural fat, and not man made fats. 4. Exercise more! Utilize that stored energy. 5. Fasting is not starvation! Starvation is no food around you. Fasting is abstinence! Fats help you survive with out passing out and hangry moments! 6. Fiber should be increased for a diabetic type 2. Metamucil no matter what the age. The facts of food: Sugar burns first. Carbs burn second. Fats burn last! Just think of why whale oil was used back in the day? It burns the slowest and longest. This is why cod liver oil and salmon oil is good for a diabetic. Food for thought, or perhaps fats. Always get exercise and get blood work every few months. Ask your doctor if these things will improve your health.
