 <p>The European Patent Office (<a href="https://www.epo.org/">EPO</a>) has rejected two patent applications claiming artificial intelligence as the inventor. <a href="https://register.epo.org/application?number=EP18275163">EP18275163</a> and <a href="https://register.epo.org/application?number=EP18275174">EP18275174</a> will not be granted because they do not have a human inventor, the EPO said. On November 25, EPO listened to the applicant's arguments and then decided that without a human inventor the patent was not protected.</p><p>The inventor in these two patents was <a href="http://imagination-engines.com/iei_dabus.php">DABUS artificial intelligence</a>, which the applicant designates as a type of connecting artificial intelligence. The first patent application was entitled Food Container and the second was Devices and methods for attracting enhanced attention. The patent application was filed by Stephen Thaler, the CEO of Imagination Engines, Missouri, which developed DABUS.&nbsp;</p><p>The company is convinced that the legislation should adapt to the technological development that artificial intelligence has brought to us. EPO, meanwhile, says man is still the only possible inventor.</p><p>This will be an interesting debate.</p>
