Assignment: Outer Space (in the United States) or with its original name **Space-Men**, from 1960, is a sci-fi movie directed by [Antonio Margheriti](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Margheriti) alias Anthony M. Dawson.

It has gone down in history as the first, but also the worst movie by this director who made 55 films in various genres, mostly sci-fi, spaghetti westerns and horror. It is also mentioned as the first Italian science-fiction film.

**Plot:**

The Alpha II spacecraft, which is operated only by the electronic brain, is moving uncontrollably around our solar system due to the sudden death of the pilot. The radiation emitted by the ship threatens the death of all living beings in the solar system and the destruction of the planet Earth if it approaches it.

The mission of the spaceship Bravo Zulu 88 is to destroy Alpha II before approaching Earth. Journalist Ray Peterson, who is aboard a rocket on the space station, joins the expedition along with Commander George and Officer Lucy to save Earth.

After hours of tension and growing conflicts and jealousy between the commander and Ray over Lucy, Ray himself heads to the Alpha II space station and disconnects its electronic brain. He thus saves the Earth from destruction and gains Lucy's favor and the commander's respect.
