[REPOST] Cryptocurrency, The Blockchains that Run Them, and the Future of Cryptocurrency.
Cryptocurrencies are like digital tokens. Every Token is accounted for. These Tokens are assets being made and recorded on a ledger. It's immutable; the ledger can't be changed. [Here](https://blockchain.info/) you can look at every transaction ever made with Bitcoin.
___
# What is Cryptocurrency

Since the inception of Blockchains, digital Asset data has been stored and transparently cared for on a public cloud. Accumulating daily. If you click on this [link you'll see the very first Bitcoin transaction ever made.](https://blockchain.info/block/00000000839a8e6886ab5951d76f411475428afc90947ee320161bbf18eb6048)
They call that the Genesis Block. The very first block ever made on each digital peer-to-peer network.

Others have existed before Bitcoin but BTC(Bitcoin) is considered the *Gold standard*.

## Transparent. Public. Incorruptible.

The *Blockchain* is the ledger. This ledger is recording every peer-to-peer transaction being made since the beginning of time. It never stops recording so long as someone is connected to it.

Transparency is what makes a *Blockchain* so valuable. It's completely public. **Everybody** can see when you mess around with it. Every body can see when it's being made. We can even see hacks and deal with them(Think of a hack as a Robbery). From what I understand this doesn't happen to truly immutable Ledgers(blockchains).

A Blockchain is a community ledger. Like an Autograph book, where every body can come along and sign their names, and trade money for Assets at the same time. *A trust network.*

## Peers Trading Cryptocurrencies are You and I

You and I exchange money everyday for these Tokens on a so-called Blockchain.

If you're Logged in to Steem right now you're probably making **STEEM tokens**. You're making these Tokens on the *Steem Blockchain*. 50% of what you make from a post as *Steem Based Dollars* and 25% of that post as a **"VEST"**(an asset that accumulates **"vesting"** interest).

This makes Steem Highly valuable. You're creating assets in the ledger just by entering words here. Those Assets are witnessed by Miners and those miners create the Money, that money is then transferred into Steem Based Dollars and Steem Power. Everyone on the Ledger is receiving a fair piece of the pie. A Revolving Pie.

Your Steem Transactions can be tracked [here](https://steemd.com/).

Each one of these Steem Transactions, Your Posts or Otherwise, are Added to the Blockchain and are accounted for by the Public.

## Every time a transaction is witnessed that witness is Rewarded

Each time a witness or *Miner* as they're called in the *Cryptosphere*, signs off on a Transaction they get Rewarded. This creates more currency in circulation. [Money Creation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money_creation).

Just like paper money is printed by a Bank, Witnesses are instead rewarded new money from the Blockchain.

# Why are these Assets being made so Valuable?

A problem with Money Creation is that it requires trust. Digital Peer-to-Peer networks solve this issue by being completely open to the Public (as shown in the links above). This makes a Cryptocurrency (An Asset or "Token") worth a **lot** of Money.

## Why are Steemit Dollars so valuable

SteemIt is the first Cryptocurrency that has truly created a mass market in Blockchain technology. Instead of only being a ledger for transactions, a blockchain is also a storage for data. They've put your Social Media data on those ledgers.

### Any kind of information on the internet that you want, can be stored and viewed here.

*Why else did you think there isn't a delete button after money starts touching your posts. They become a part of the ledger.*

By using Social Networking **STEEMIT** has attracted one of the Largest Markets in the World. Steemit already has over 42,000 users in only 3 months. That's insane.
It'll be very interesting to see how Steemit progresses in the next few months. I for one and hoping it succeeds in becoming popular and helping the world to understand the Blockchain.

## The future of Bitcoin Looks Brighter than Ever.

*Even to a new comer like myself, the future of crypto currencies, its *Gold Standard* that is Bitcoin, and it's newly found GUI platforms and Decentralized Organizations being adopted, it's hard to see them failing anytime soon. At least not in my life time.*

If you look at the future of *fiat* you see that's it not Decentralized. Their ledgers are not open. It's value is more pegged to actual resources. Cryptocurrencies are pegged to everything, including data and trust. Two things *fiat currencies* have not.

In my own honest opinion, Cryptocurrencies continue to prove themselves legitimate Digital Assets and that's dangerous to *fiat*. I feel that with people now starting to adopt Blockchain Technology for different reasons, Major Cryptocurrencies could eventually dominate every other market in the World. Steem will be one of those Major Cryptocurrencies.
