### Collection Highlights - 1867 2 Cent


Come back with sharing another piece from The collection I was able to finally catalog for the way. I'm walking through the rest of the collection I received from my mother's side. This contains coins that came from my grandfather and great-grandfather. This one is a 1867 to cent that has clearly seen better days. This is the only two cent in the entire collection that I got, and it along with the three cent coins I got opened my eyes to the world of newest Maddox and got me very interested in collecting these out dated currency types.

When trying to identify this coin that came across an image of one that is in mint state condition. It was probably something along the lines of ngc, or the photo below that comes from PCGS coinfax page.

There is just something about the size of this coin, and the high grade ones having that red and slightly toned copper look that really got me interested. After looking into these for a bit I did go off and buy what I thought was a very high grade partially red 2 cent. Unfortunately for me the seller took amazing photos or maybe slightly edited them and the coin I got was much less red and much darker. It was still an excellent high grade example, but did not have the eye appeal of the red that I was looking for. I am still contemplating my move into the 2-cent pieces because I will likely struggle to afford the coins at want with the right eye appeal. To get coins in the ms60 range you're looking at least $100 for those that are red in color, while the less desirable Brown and chocolate color run at least $100. 

While this coin is not a very high grade, it opened my eyes to a coin that I would love to collect in the higher grades, there's just something about this one that really gets me, but I do love the old copper coins that have some red left in them not to mention the shield on this one is stunning and I really like the two cents surrounded by the wreath as well.

The details are worn pretty thin, and there appears to be a potential counter stamp on the bottom. I looked at this several times at The loop while it's in the 2x2 and I'm having a hard time distinguishing if it a dirty stained, or someone stamp this, or if there was some other sort of damage to the round.

Pretty brutal look to this side as well. So much of the details Warren and gone that it hardly looks like the same coin at times. Well much of the detail is gone I think that both sides of this coin would grade somewhere in the detail level of a good four. Pretty low on the scale but at the same time it's still clearly identifiable and given its history I'm glad to hold on to it. I hope to one day get a decent amount of collections in the about uncirculated to the Mid-State variety but that will unfortunately have to wait a while.
