Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.
Caro Dan qualcosa l'ho imparata guardando This Is Us, ovvero che se si vuole, se si presta attenzione, se ci si mette di impegno, un senso nelle cose riusciamo sempre a trovarlo.
E allora oggi, a 6 anni da quella prima pietra e da quel pilot che tutti ricorderemo, eccoci qui a tributare ad This Is Us l'ennesimo omaggio.
Spulciando nelle classifiche che vi regalo oramai da un paio di anni, ho fatto un esercizio, esercizio di cui in cuor mio già conoscevo la risposta ma che ho voluto empiricamente verificare.
L'esercizio consisteva nel ricercare quante serie tv prodotte ed andate in onda sulla tv generalista statunitense fossero finite nelle prime 50 posizioni delle varie classifiche del 2019, 2020, 2021 e 2022.

La risposta è che se escludiamo The Good Fight, che tra l'altro è prodotta da CBS ma nella sua sezione "cable/streaming" chiamata CBS All Access, di fatto non troviamo alcun titolo in onda sulla tv generalista che sia meritevole di ambire ad altissime posizioni delle mie modestissime classifiche.
L'unica costante è sempre stata This is Us da 6 anni a questa parte.
Chiamatela capolavoro o ottima serie, o serie cult, non lo so, appiccicate allo show della NBC l'etichetta che più vi aggrada, fatto sta che This Is Us ha testimoniato l'ultimo afflato della tv generalista, capace di sfornare innumerevoli serie tv leggendarie tra gli anni 2000 e 2015, salvo poi soccombere prima sotto i colpi delle cable tv e poi delle cannonate di Netflix e le sue sorelle.
This Is Us era rimasta lì a difendere strenuamente il fortino, consapevole che dopo di lei nulla sarebbe rimasto se non le ceneri di una casata che prima dominava il mondo e poi è stata spazzata via.
This Is Us, con la sua grazia, con la sua classe e la sua capacità di parlare di amore, vita, famiglia e tempo come nessun altro, si è meritata un ruolo scomodo ma prestigioso come quello che in questi anni ha ricoperto.

It's September, and unlike in the past 6 years, from 2016 onward, we will not be able to enjoy the "return" of This Is Us.
Indeed, with the series finale that aired on May 24, the beautiful NBC series, created by Dan Fogelman said goodbye, forever to its fans.
It was a dense, simple and emotionally topsy-turvy finale that the authors offered us, put at the tail end of a season, and a series that so many tears made us shed and so many reflections triggered in all of us.
To come back from the August vacation knowing that This Is Us would not return to load us with a huge backpack of emotions is something quite alienating and that a little melancholy puts it on.
And so, far from imagining that I am even remotely able to alleviate such sorrow, I thought I would dedicate this post to what may have been the last great TV series to air on generalist TV.
Today is September 27, 2022, and it just so happens that this date coincides with the very date on which, 6 years ago Dan Fogelman's show debuted.
Dear Dan something I learned from watching This Is Us, which is that if you want to, if you pay attention, if you put your mind to it, we can always find meaning in things.
So today, six years after that first rock and that pilot we will all remember, here we are paying yet another tribute to This Is Us.
Going through the charts that I have been giving you for a couple of years now, I did an exercise, an exercise whose answer I already knew in my heart but wanted to empirically test.
The exercise consisted of researching how many TV series produced and aired on U.S. generalist TV ended up in the top 50 positions of the various rankings for 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.

The answer is that if we exclude The Good Fight, which by the way is produced by CBS but in its "cable/streaming" section called CBS All Access, we do not in fact find any title airing on generalist TV that is worthy of aspiring to high positions in my very modest rankings.
The only constant has always been This is Us for the past 6 years.
Call it a masterpiece, or an excellent series, or a cult series, I don't know, stick the NBC show with whatever label you like, the fact is that This Is Us has witnessed the last gasp of generalist TV, capable of churning out countless legendary TV series between the 2000s and 2015, only to succumb first under the blows of cable TV and then the cannonballs of Netflix and its sisters.
This Is Us had stood there strenuously defending the fort, knowing that after her nothing would remain but the ashes of a lineage that first ruled the world and then was swept away.
This Is Us, with its grace, with its class, and with its ability to speak of love, life, family, and time like no other, has deserved such an uncomfortable but prestigious role as the one it has held in recent years.
Among the many other things that could be said about This Is Us, today I imagined talking to you about something that if you like is more boring and less "mainstream" but that has its own specific impact with respect to TV history and the reading we want to give with respect to the scope of This Is Us within this history.
These are more mass-media reasonings but they do not detract from the affection that has bound us to the Pearsons, fraternal friends of us poor viewers caught in a punch in the stomach for 6 years through a breathtaking and circular story that has made us understand many, many things about us as well as the protagonists. Time goes by and sometimes deceives but we still have the power to connect to others, weave timeless plots and bonds, build our own drawer of memories to place right next to the one of dreams.
And so thank you again This Is Us. We can't say it enough.
