I was reading Shakti Gawain’s book “Meditations” the other day and came across a bit of an unexpected chapter. Unexpected because it’s a book on meditation and I didn’t expect to find this being explored as part of it. 

Everything in the universe has opposites or polarized energies. The ying and yang, black and white, light and dark, active and receptive, positive and negative, masculine and feminine. We’ve been culturally conditioned to see the masculine and feminine as genders. 

Have you also considered the masculine and feminine as aspects of yourself? Many find themselves resisting that suggestion. 

I attend a Clubhouse room led by Curtis Herron that explores the topic of the “Intuitive Masculine Empath”. It’s on Wednesdays at noon EST. During the room the topic of the masculine and the feminine often comes up. I often see or hear people confusing the concept of gender with the masculine and feminine aspects of our self. 

### What is the Masculine and Feminine Aspects? 

The female or feminine aspect of our being is the receptive, intuitive part. It’s a part often the most missed aspect of ourselves. We all can have intuitive awareness. Often our intuitive aspects are conditioned out of us at an early age by a society putting more value in ‘action’ over receiving of knowledge and wisdom. 

I’ve been aware of having a strong intuitive aspect for most of my life. I also spent much of my life discounting it, that is what I was taught. Intuition or ‘gut feelings’ were not real was the message. Following them was being an ‘emotional female’ and not a valid approach. 

As I reached the point in my life where I was more willing to tune into my intuition I started to learn greater insight into myself and often found my first intuitive reactions to other people and situations proved to be accurate. As I explore my spirituality, I’ve been learning why the intuition is so often accurate. 

Intuition taps into the deepest and wisest guiding force within each of us. It allows the higher power of the universe to function. Many of us think of God as being outside of our being, a separate entity. God, the unseen power, is within and our intuition is in touch with that presence. 

I’ll remind you here, I don’t see God in the religious sense. For me, God is all the power I cannot see while religion is all the power that can be seen. 

Okay, I can almost hear you thinking, that feminine aspect should be there with you, you’re a woman. That’s not true for guys, the have the masculine. Think of the game show buzzer with the sound of a wrong answer going off here. 

The feminine aspect is also present in men. Many men are unaware or choose to hide its presence. They are conditioned to just as women are conditioned to avoid their masculine aspects. 

The masculine aspect is the active. It receives the message from the feminine and seeks ways to bring the knowledge or idea to the world. The masculine is the doing. For me, that means my masculine receives the messages from my feminine intuitive creative self and figures out how to share that in the world. It’s a synergy between the aspects. 

### Wait, The Feminine Tells the Masculine What to Do? 

In a world that still hasn’t fully accepted the equality between the male and the female, the concept of the feminine aspect guiding the masculine aspect gets seen as women telling men what to do. They see it as diminishing men. 

Thankfully, that antiquated concept is slowing dying the death it should have died long ago. Men acting on delivered knowledge and wisdom should be the desired outcome, regardless of where it comes from. Just as it should be for women. 

Couples often experience the interplay between our inner aspects. Does this sound familiar? The wife may says “I feel like having dinner out, it’s been a tough day” and the husband responds with “I hear you, where would you like me to take you?” or something like that. It’s the synergy between reception and action at play.

### The Two Aspects As A Team

The feminine energy plus male actions results in creativity. Both energies need to work together in harmony with each other as part of being a fully functioning person. Just like a couple work together in as much harmony as possible to create a strong marriage. 

In our innerself, that synergy of reception and action between our two aspects is a beautiful event. It leads us to more full awareness of our being and how we function within ourself and the outside world. Denying either of the masculine or feminine is to render ourself incomplete. 

Spiritually, the feminine is tuned into the higher intelligence of the universe, some call God. It’s natural to want to be guided by the highest intelligence. The masculine energy listens to the guidance and figures out how to make it work in the world with clarity, directness and passionate strength. 

### Doesn’t The Two Aspects Blue Gender Lines?

Many ask if honouring both the male and female energy as part of the whole person just makes us all the same. No, it doesn’t. It makes us more complete as individuals within the gender we live in the world as. 

The gender we live in the world as, the person we live as, has our own unique presence. A man who honours his feminine energy as much as his masculine energy can be just as strong, even tough as the guy who thinks he has to be all ‘masculine’. The former is able to live as a fuller complete person with nothing to prove to anyone. 

The same goes for women who often experience being put down for letting their masculine energy be seen as they put their feminine energy to work in the world. 

I tend to think if more of us allowed both aspects of our energy loose in our lives, the world would be a wiser and kinder place.
