I was one of the early users of Twitter when it first came out. I used it a lot and made some friends at local tweetups. Then I found I was spending a ton of time on it and shifted away. I still had it and followed some accounts but rarely spent any time exploring it. 

Earlier this year, I started spending some more time there following some news events happening. Information was more readily available on Twitter than on the media sites. 

### Finding Twitter Spaces

On a new discord I’d joined I saw people asking to have chats on ‘Spaces’. They were pretty enthusiastic about these things that I’d never heard of. I also couldn’t see the sense in being in a Discord where live voice was readily available and going to Twitter to have a live voice chat. I still didn’t know what Spaces was. 

So, off I went to my friend Google and did some searching. It took some exploring before I found that Twitter had added live chat to their platform but ONLY through mobile phones if you wanted to participate. 

If you just wanted to listen, you could do that through your browser, if you had the link to the Space. Spaces are not available in any form on my iPads. 

### Dropping Into My First Space

One afternoon I was killing some time and scrolled down through the list of Spaces currently active. None of the titles caught my eye until I noticed one with the word “Hive” in the title. I clicked into it and found an afterchat for the HiveChat happening. It was hosted by @epodcaster, a Hivian I’d never met before. 

I listened to her chatting with people who were mostly not familiar with the blockchain or Hive. She had a great way of explaining the blockchain and Hive without getting into tech talk. It was an interesting hour. 

Through getting to know her in the last few weeks I’ve learned more about how available podcasting on the blockchain is that I’d not been aware of before. 

Dropping into another space later on I met @alessandrawhite hosting. She told me later it was only the second time she’d hosted a Space. 

It was around the end of March and I’d been finding myself wanting to write more consistently but having difficulty getting myself down to it. 

### The Creative Work Hour

Over the course of a few days she and I chatted in DM. Alessandra introduced me to a project of hers called the Creative Work Hour, a daily gathering on Zoom. We start by stating our intentions for the hour, then mute to work on the intentions. At the end of the hour we take a few minutes to share what we did or didn’t do and then off we go to the rest of our day. 

I’ve been attending and… hmmm.. So far this month I’ve written every day. Naw, couldn’t be related at all. **I’ll nudge @alessandrawhite to write a post to share about her project and the Discord she’s created.**

### The Anti-Expert Space 

Alessandra, like so many people, is intrigued by the idea of creating content on the blockchain but feels overwhelmed at trying to understand it. So, she did what I’ve learned is fairly typical for her. 

She created a Space to learn (pun intended). 

For the last few Tuesday evenings she has hosted an Anti-Expert Space and asked me to help by co-hosting. The purpose of the space is to ask questions about blockchain and creating content on the blockchain in a non-threatening environment. 

It’s a chat between people where they can get questions answered in a relaxed non-judgemental way. Tossing tech knowledge around and overwhelming people is avoided. When she’s able to @epodcaster drops in and brings her non-techy explaining skills.

### Let’s Welcome Some New People 

Did you notice I tagged @alessandrawhite? She has joined Hive but not yet posted. I have no doubt I’ll get a DM from her soon with a link to a post. Her partner @bitterirony has also joined along with two members of the Creative Work Hour, @iwannabeme who has started posting and @andysporring who just joined this morning. 

### Final Thoughts on Twitter Spaces

Spaces do get audiences and they are structured in a way that let’s people drop in easily. After being used to having a text chat alongside a voice chat, I find it frustrating not having a text chat handy. 

I also find the phone only aspect of it a bit of a pain. I really do prefer either being able to participate on laptop or on my tablet.
