Why do you have to use GIFS in a post?

They distract from the reading. Sometimes I have to put my hand over the gif so I can just focus on the text. After the first few repeats they get very annoying. It's the visual equivalent of someone saying "LOOK AT ME I'M RIGHT HERE" over and over again. They aren't needed and I personally am sick of seeing them, can you please just use regular photos?
