Yessssss! Now that's just saucy! Love it!

Wow, that is intense.  I'm not a poet, but the feelings captured by the comforts of food and companionship are wrapped together beautifully here.  A simplicity that is seemingly so hard to find nowadays.  Looking forward to reading more of your work.

I felt when reading this like the speaker was laying in bed in the morning or late at night with her lover. They were eating something small, and were either just done with sex, or about to have it. I appreciate how you can read both into this poem: sex or food.

In the first line the speaker states that they want "comfort" as their most basic desire. I found the phrasing of "At the basic level" a little off. I know what it means, but maybe, "At my basic level?" or "Basically" I liked how this made me think of Maslow and the hierarchy of needs.  Food first. Or is it Sex first? This is one of the reasons I love  this poem so much. 

I enjoyed the play on food next that could also be sexual: 
"peanut butter licked from a spoon" evokes in my mind spooning with the guy, and the "licking from" makes me think naughty things. Well done. There is also very few things as satisfying and pleasurable than licking peanut butter from a spoon. Great image!

With the line, "jam on toast and butter spread like / my legs when you dine on me" it solidified my suspicion that this was a sexual poem too. Wow! I had hoped with the licking spoon, but this was real! Thank you for this. I'm so happy to see thoughtful poetry that provides  such clear imagery. 

I loved the line, "pitching me wild in my need for more / sustenance." It made me think that the "dining on me" was pushing the speaker over the edge into wild throes of both passion and pleasure. This could be from the fed food, or the licked "spread [...] legs." 

I enjoyed the use of the word "sustenance" because it doubles as both food to eat, and sex that keeps you alive. 

The next two lines were also very pleasing to both read and re-read, "put simply" a harken back to the original "basic level," "feed me / I am so hungry for the meal of you." I enjoyed the reference back,  and then the explicit reference to sex and food at the same time. The speaker puts them together in this line with such subtle excellent: the "meal of you" could be the lover feeding her, or the sex itself as a reciprocal affair. 

The next line lost me though: i had to read it twice because it didn't feel right: "heart caving empty." Was it supposed to be attached to the line before it as like a continuing sentence, or was it a hard pause, a difference?  I liked, "FEED. ME." to express the intensity of the desire and the need. I think I even understand "heart caving empty" like there is a void in the soul, in the stomach, in the loins that just need to be filled by something, by food, by naughty words. 

The speaker continues to the next exciting image and  relationship commentary with, "instead of devouring, fill my cup." I like how it isn't about getting eaten, but about providing, by "filling my cup" it could be sex and getting filled, but it can also be about being provided for, not taken from. Good relationships are more about building each other up, by giving than taking. I liked this. It was so elegantly said. 

Ahhh, and the next two lines! "Tender morsels to open lips / asking LIKE THIS? DO YOU LIKE THIS?" I had this vision of a guy between my legs asking if that was what I liked. I also simultaneously had a vision of a man feeding me food asking the same questions. It was so double meaning laced! Amazing!

Right when the poem comes to a crescendo it cumulates in climax with, "and when I am no longer hungry." I found this so understated, it was so subtle too. The speaker jumps past the orgasm from food or sex and goes right to immediately after. "no longer hungry" = satisfied. Then, the last two lines set up a wonderfully touching ending: getting tucked in at night. Even better being tucked in after getting off and satisfying each other. The final line is also a gentle rebuke to jerks, and a pat on the back for the speaker's lover: they take care of the speaker then tuck in gently without pressuring for more than she wants.

Thank  you so much for this poem. I found such pleasure in it, and look forward to reading it again in the future. You use such excellent images, "the blankets around my body," morsels to open lips," spread like my legs when you dine on me," "peanut butter licked from spoon." Gosh! They are great! Throughout, I also loved the double meaning of food and sex. Thank you! Thank you! Keep it going!
