This is a meme, but it is also true.

We have major public figures talking about things like carbon emissions, climate change, the Paris Accord, etc. and yet none of the policies brought forward do a damn thing to fix the real problems with the environment and with infrastructure.

By now, the food business is so stratified with other crony programs and corporate entities that it's best to simply find a way to opt out. Nobody is able to innovate in this field because of regulations that are designed to pay favors to corporations that fund political campaigns. All of which has nothing to do with helping the members of society to maintain a healthy diet.

And the society is also far too dependent on these infrastructures. This isn't even completely the fault of the people, as there are regulations against things like gardening, well-digging, water catching, and personal energy production devices.

Basically, the system of corporate cronyism is designed to keep innovation stifled and the public dependent on goods and services that are becoming increasingly worse.

# Solution

Do it yourself.

To the largest extent that you are able. 

If you are generating your own energy, growing your own food, collecting your own water, treating your own sewage, etc. you will be much safer in case of another depression or a new kind of catastrophic emergency.

Earthships are homes that are built out of repurposed materials, have a south-facing greenhouse that regulates temperature and grows food, have solar and wind power elements to power them, have a water catching system that provides for all water requirements, and a gray-water treatment system that maximizes water by using it 3 times before being done with it.

Imagine not having to pay an energy bill, a water bill, a sewage bill, or a grocery bill, and in fact -- if you plug your energy system into the grid, the government will even pay you for the excess you create -- you'll even earn money from it.

These things make people more self-sufficient and provide more liberty by freeing people of dependance on centralized authority and utility.

Your supply chain will be as local as possible, and you'll know how to do everything for yourself.
