It's funny knowing that, in emergencies, we often have no one to support us, other than ourselves. So why do we give so little importance to first aid? That set of actions that can help determine whether a person will survive or not, until professional rescue arrives. I'm one of those people myself, who, even with children and a wife at home, doesn't even know where to begin with basic first aid procedures. This shows that, in my case, if something happens, I'll be in a tight spot, whether at home or on the street.

But why is that? Well, in my specific case, I can say that I already have a very strong aversion to any medical procedure. I really don't do well with it. It was even the subject of a post here on HL that the profession I would never pursue would be a doctor, especially if it involved blood, broken bones, or bodies in "complex" situations, because I really don't have the strength for it. So, my disinterest in these things has been with me for as long as I can remember.

As a result, I'm quite careless with everything involved in this area, including learning how to perform first aid procedures. I know that CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is the most well-known procedure, but even he doesn't know how to do it. Okay, isn't that cool? Could this save lives? Yes, awesome, but I'm really slow with this and have no interest in learning. Maybe in a pinch, we'll look something up online or just yell for someone else to help us, but is it really worth it for someone like me to learn this? I believe this could be a cultural issue as well. As far back as I can remember, throughout my entire school history, we never received first aid training; we only learned about it in books or videos, things like that. So, to create a society and people who know at least the basics of life support, it would be great if public and private schools also offered regular training, just like teaching about traffic safety or financial literacy. Teaching first aid can actually create a better society, right? I think that, this way, more lay people like me could leave school already knowing some basics.

Therefore, it's a warning (including to myself) that it's good to invest a little in learning first aid; it can make a big difference. Although it depends on the individual, some enjoy learning these things, I tend to keep to myself, preferring to focus on what I enjoy, be it technology, computers, electronic devices, and so on. But, nothing stops me from learning new things that, above all, can help save lives, right?

Now I'm curious to know: is this a cultural thing in Brazil? Or do people in other countries have these first aid classes in their schools or companies? Is this something we can change with teaching coming from within the school system? What is your opinion?

É engraçado saber que, em casos de emergências, muitas vezes não teremos ninguém que possa nos apoiar, tirando a nossa própria pessoa. Então, por que será que damos tão pouca importância para os primeiros socorros? Aquele conjunto de ações que podem ajudar a definir se uma pessoa vai viver ou não, até que o resgate profissional chegue. Eu mesmo sou desse tipo de pessoa, que mesmo com crianças e mulher em casa, não sei nem por onde começam os procedimentos básicos de primeiros socorros, então isso mostra que, no meu caso, se algo acontecer, estarei em maus lençóis, seja em casa ou na rua.

Mas, por que isso? Bem, no meu caso em específico, posso dizer que já tenho uma aversão muito forte a qualquer procedimento médico, realmente não me dou muito bem com isso, inclusive já até foi tema de postagem aqui da HL que a profissão que nunca teria seria a de médico, ainda mais se isso envolvesse sangue, ossos quebrados ou corpos em situações “complexas”, pois, não tenho forças mesmo para isso. Então, meu desinteresse nessas coisas já é algo que me acompanha há muito tempo, desde que me lembre como pessoa.

Com isso, sou bem desleixado com tudo o que envolve essa área, inclusive aprender a fazer os procedimentos de primeiros socorros. Sei que o RCP (Reanimação cardiopulmonar) seja o procedimento mais conhecido, mas nem mesmo ele sabe fazer. OK, não é legal, isso poderia salvar vidas? Sim, demais, mas eu realmente sou lerdo com isso e não tenho interesse nenhum de aprender. Talvez na hora do aperto busquemos algo na internet ou somente gritaremos para outra pessoa nos ajudar, mas será que é bom mesmo uma pessoa como eu aprender isso? Será que não executaria os procedimentos todos errados?

Acredito que isso possa ser um problema cultural também. Desde que me lembre, em todo o meu histórico escolar, nunca recebemos um treinamento sobre os primeiros socorros, somente vimos em livros ou vídeos, coisas do tipo. Então, para criar uma sociedade e pessoas que saibam pelo menos o básico de apoio, seria legal se as escolas públicas e particulares também fizessem treinamentos regulares, assim como ensinar sobre o trânsito ou educação financeira, ensinar os primeiros socorros, na prática, pode criar uma sociedade melhor não poderia? Penso que, dessa forma, pessoas mais leigas como eu poderiam sair da escola já sabendo alguma coisa básica.

Sendo assim, fica o alerta (inclusive para mim) de que é bom investir um pouco em aprender os primeiros socorros, isso pode fazer uma grande diferença. Apesar de que vai de cada pessoa, alguns gostam de aprender essas coisas, eu já costumo ficar mais na minha, preferindo focar no que gosto, sendo tecnologia, computadores, aparelhos eletrônicos e por aí vai, mas, nada impede também de aprender coisas novas que principalmente podem ajudar a salvar vidas não é mesmo? 

Agora fiquei curioso para saber, será que isso é algo cultural do Brasil? Ou em outros países as pessoas têm essas aulas de primeiros socorros em suas escolas, ou empresas? Será que isso é algo que podemos mudar com o ensinamento vindo de dentro da escola? Qual a sua opinião?
