IS THERE A TIME LIMIT FOR UPDATING POSTS?

Oddly I can't seem to update most of my posts.

They are only a day old because like everyone here I am new and evolving. 

And also my reputation is in tatters having just dropped from 42 down to 38 after posting a new post.  Maybe I am evil.

usually it's after 12 hours, but - from what I heard - this period could be a bit longer, depending on votes - not sure about this.

After some time inbetween 12 to 24 hours you can't edit anymore

My vague understanding at this point is that we have 24 hours for our posts to be collecting rewards, and during that time we can edit them. After payout we can no longer edit them.

I'm still pretty vague about this, and like all things Steemit it will involve algorithms
