Results From Guess The Grade

# Afternoon everyone.....

The other day I posted a numismatic game post called “Guess the grade”. I thought it would be fun and a little educating at the same time.

I posted a 1917-S Standing Liberty quarter which was graded by NGC and was on an auction site.

There were several people that participated.

Here are their comments:

I am not this good at grading coins.
I believe this would be an XF-40.
You can tell it has been circulated a little at one point or the other.
It shows wear on the shield and also the flowing robe area.
Even some wear on the "WE" I wonder how many know why the "U" in the word "TRUST" is actually a "V"?

I'll say at least MS64. The picture is a little dark at the top but I can see hair, some good detail in the robe and is that a belly button? Just looking at the higher parts of the coin that still have detail like like the toes and the date plus the breast is still...full. I think the ding on the breast is from another coin in the bag and does not affect the grade.
And like @preparedwombat said, the breast feathers are still visible.

Actually after taking a real close look I love this coin even more, great design.

While the chart I am going to show below does not have an MS61 example on it. The separation and detail on the toes is one of the keys to this being a mint state coin. The other is that lady Liberty still has a full head. This is designated on the slab (MS61 FH) the toes and head are the two highest points of the coin.
