It’s been a really really long time since I’ve posted a piece of gold. Why? Honestly, I don’t own much gold at all compared to silver. I’ve tried many different ways to set goals and save in order to buy gold in the past. But I’ve never actually hit my goals in any year.

I started off, looking to add an ounce a year. Not all at once, which is pretty much an impossibility for me. My plan was to buy four quarter ounce gold coins throughout the year. I started off fine with the first purchase, but then didn’t buy another until the very end of the year.

Then I went through a very lengthy and costly divorce. Which totally destroyed all my stacking for the most part. Yeah, I picked some stuff up but barely anything.

I came across this piece in one of the latest boxes from my private security place. It’s a 2022 quarter ounce gold Canadian Maple Leaf coin. It’s sealed in the original mint plastic. 

Personally, I really like buying quarter ounces because of the ease of selling them. Yes, I’m aware you pay a higher premium when buying them but they are easy to liquidate if needed. 

The only one ounce gold bullion coin that I’d like to own at some point would be a one ounce gold Buffalo. I love the design and love that’s it’s also .9999 pure gold.

The Canadian Maple is the first gold bullion coin to be made of pure gold.

Here is some history on it:
Canadian Maple Leaf Coins made their debut in 1979, introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint. These coins were a strategic response to the growing demand for a pure gold investment option. With a gold purity of 99.9%, they quickly gained recognition for their exceptional fineness. This high gold content was further enhanced to 99.99% from November 1982 onwards. The launch coincides with the height of the South African Krugerrand’spopularity in the world of bullion. However, the Kruger was only 22- karat (or 91.67%) in purity, leaving room for a pure gold alternative. In a way, the Kruger created the marketplace for retail gold investment, which the Maple Leaf exploited by providing the higher purity option for holding tangible wealth, in a time when Krugerrands weren’t easily available due to the economic boycott of apartheid-era South Africa.

Evolution of Design Over the Years

The design of Canadian Maple Leaf Coins has evolved, yet it has maintained a consistent theme of natural beauty and national pride. Early editions featured a single maple leaf on the reverse side, while later versions introduced security features to deter counterfeiting. Witnessing this evolution offers a glimpse into the Mint’s commitment to innovation and adaptability in the ever-changing landscape of precious metal investments.
