This coin is one of my absolute favorite gold coin of all time. I took me this long to find one at the price that is reasonable.  
# <center>1986 Statue of Liberty Commemorative Gold $5 Proof</center>
The first of these coins was struck on October 18, 1985, and they were made up to 1986.Authorized to honor its centennial, the gold coin features the Statue of Liberty.

The coin's obverse design depicts a close-up of Liberty. Inscriptions: LIBERTY, 1986

The gold coin's obverse was created by US Mint Chief Engraver Elizabeth Jones. A close-up of Liberty's face was created by Elizabeth Jones in a stunning and unique way. Her countenance and a segment of her ray crown are visible... stylish yet also simple in design. The words "1986" and "LIBERTY" are set apart by rays.

<a href="https://www.medalartists.com/fowler-philip-e.html">Philip Fowler</a> and Miss Jones worked together to create the reverse of this gold coin. It shows an approaching eagle with its wings spread wide. The phrases "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "FIVE DOLLARS" are surrounded by six five-pointed stars on the left and seven five-pointed stars on the right, respectively. The mottoes are on the inner periphery.

Since most Americans could identify to their relatives' experience as immigrants arriving at Ellis Island and viewing the Statue of Liberty as they entered New York Harbor, this series was extremely successful. It made more than $78 million in profit, which went toward finishing Ellis Island's and the Statue of Liberty's repair. Most importantly, Miss Liberty was given a brilliant torch with a gilded covering so she could keep lighting the path.

As the Statue of Liberty turned 100 years old in 1986, legislation was presented to the US Mint requesting the creation of coins to mark the occasion. Coinage bearing the names "Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Commemorative Coin Act," Public Law 99-61, authorized the minting of 25,000,000 half-dollar coins, 10,000,000 silver dollars, and 500,000 gold five-dollar pieces.  President Reagan authorized it on July 9, 1985, and signed it. 

**This set would include several firsts: the first gold commemorative coin in American numismatic history, the first commemorative half dollar in copper-nickel clad, and the first gold coin since the 1929 Indian Head gold coin.**
