I'm a newbie to Steemit. Barely a few weeks old. You can call me a baby minnow because who doesn't like babies- exploring, trying new things, putting everything in their mouth. All right, scrap the last one. I'm actually very vigilant with what I put in my mouth.
 
But first things first, this growing incy-wincy infant minnow (being an adult minnow is now a real goal only Steemians will understand) powered up...wait for it (drumroll) ....her first STEEM to STEEM Power!!  While it wasn't a lot, it meant a lot to me and made me King of Pride Rock. Actually let's make that Queen. And it did feel like 2 million instead of 2.

For all those newbies out there that are earning STEEM in one form or another, you can convert your STEEM Dollars (SBD) to STEEM fairly easy and without waiting  for 3.5 days to convert like you would if you convert through the wallet. What you do is go to your internal market link on the dropdown menu. It'll take you to this screen

Now what you wanna do is fill in the Buy spaces of how much you want converted.  And then click buy. You'll have to enter your password to confirm the transaction and now viola you have converted SBD to STEEM. But wait, there's one more step to get the power and punch you need to get the best out of Steemit. That namely is STEEM Power. 

Go to you wallet and click on the dropdown arrow on the STEEM box

Click on Power Up and enter the amount that is available to power up or any amount of your choice.

Click Power Up and it'll ask for you password and again...VIOLA... it's that easy. 

STEEM Power is what gives you the power behind you upvotes, resteems, curator and author rewards. The more Steem Power you have the more you'll see your wallet growing when you interact in Steemit.
