
The decision of Bank Indonesia (BI) to ban Bitcoin as a means of payment was received by one of the industry players. Bitcoin Indonesia CEO *Oscar Darmawan* even appreciated BI's ban.
The reason *Oscar* accepted BI's decision was based on various factors.
One of them is coming from the understanding that Rp is the only legal means of payment in Indonesia. Oscar also tolerate government efforts that intend to boost the value of the Rp to be stronger.
BI's decision not to prohibit the existence of Bitcoin which Oscar according to the most appropriate step. Because, he saw Bitcoin and its supporting network of blockchain, as a technology.
**Not Digital Currency**
On the same occasion, *Oscar* rate Bitcoin not exactly referred to as a digital currency. He tends to equate the workings of Bitcoin with Visa and MasterCard payment systems that are well known worldwide.
Oscar pointed out that Microsoft has long used Bitcoin as a means of transaction.
In the process, Bitcoin from the consumer will be converted in US dollars in the digital asset market through the services of a third party company. When the conversion is completed, the money will be received by Microsoft as an official payment from the consumer.
Simply put oscar stressed that Bitcoin is a protocol, not a form of digital currency. And when a country legalizes Bitcoin as a means of payment, Bitcoin will automatically involve the local currency.
