La primera vez que planté lechozas en mi solar les coloqué en la raíz una generosa ración de cáscaras de huevo machacadas, así como varios huesos de pollo y de res y hasta unas pastillas de calcio vencidas; con esto aseguré el suministro de este elemento por largo rato. Al no disponer de un suministro de calcio, las estas plantas nuevas no podían mantener sus frutos y aún cuando florecían, éstos se caían a los días. Pero, adicionalmente, de la planta que es más enana, se enamoró una iguana bebé que consume todos sus brotes y no he podido capturarla para llevarla a otro sitio, así que mastica todos los brotes que mi planta ha dado, y lo único que pude cosechar fue una sola papaya de aproximadamente 930 gramos de peso. </b></div> *** <div class="text-justify"> On the other hand, when I transplanted them, I made the very serious mistake of not adding some source of calcium to their roots. Quise aprovechar este poder germinativo, y procedí a recoger tierra de mi solar, la cual es muy rica y tiene muchas lombrices de tierra; tomé unas cáscaras de huevo para sembrarlas, (esto con el fin de asegurarles calcio desde temprano), a las cuales les abrí un orificio con un cuchillo a manera de drenaje, y procedí a sembrarlas en unos maceteros viejos. Esto lo hice el 7 de junio, creo que si hago todo bien, y la iguana bebé se muda de mi solar, ya para diciembre estaré cosechando papayas para hacer un delicioso dulce de Navidad; sin embargo, con esta lechoza preparé un poco de dulce, que no quedó en el punto óptimo ya que la fruta estaba algo madura, pero sin embargo quedó sabroso. Jajaja, me causo risa leer tu entrada @sirenahippie porque me identifiqué con algunas de tus dificultades. En el patio de mi casa siempre he sembrado semillas de lechosa pero nunca he logrado un fruto. Tengo morrocoyes que se comían las hojas, colocaba pilas de ladrillos alrededor pero los empujaban, lo resolví colocando cilindros de tela plástica alrededor de las plantas y ha sido efectivo, aunque no entiendo por qué su efectividad; quizás los confunde. Actualmente, tengo tres plantas sembradas pero solo una ha crecido bastante. Tu entrada es muy didáctica.

Pues gracias por tu visita @capp, sí a veces es complicado esto de la siembra urbana, pero todo es experimentar y aprender. Trata de regarlas como dije en un comentario, con orín ligado con agua. También suminístrales calcio, por ejemplo, a la semana puedes diluir un poco de leche en el agua de riego y se la colocas en la raíz, también les puedes enterrar en la base cáscaras de huevo molidas o trituradas, conseguir humus de lombriz resulta también, pero por lo general ellas requieren calcio, así que hay que ofrecérselos de algún modo. Lo que mencionas lo he hecho, orín, cáscaras de huevo y hay bastantes lombrices. Aunque la tierra es buena, porque otras plantas si prosperan, en un sitio estoy almacenando residuos orgánicos para elaborar un compost; también les echaré cenizas. Lo de la leche nunca lo he intentado. Gracias por tus recomendaciones. Éxitos en futuras siembras.

Hola @dojeda gracias por venir a visitarme. Oh, lamento mucho saber que en tu casa la tierra no es muy apta, pero mira, eso tiene solución: Ve preparando composteros y vas enriqueciendo la tierra. Por ejemplo, hay áreas de mi solar que son más productivas que otras, ¿qué hago yo?, pues preparo mis composteros y cuando ya el compost está listo, lo ligo con tierra de las áreas del solar que son de mejor calidad, rebusco por debajo de la superficie, saco varias lombrices de tierra, las coloco junto con la mezcla anterior, consigo hojas viejas, desechos de verduras y frutas, pico esto picadito y se lo agrego a la mezcla. Luego voy y picoteo el terreno, lo remuevo bien y lo humedezco y voy enterrando porciones de la mezcla anterior; esto permite que el suelo se vaya enriqueciendo, que las lombrices se reproduzcan y mejore la calidad edáfica; obviamente siempre estoy humedeciendo esas áreas, porque las lombrices requieren humedad para vivir, y material biológico degradable, como son los restos vegetales que también se los suministro con frecuencia. Yo no boto nada, ni siquiera los huesos de pollo o de res, todo lo que sea biodegradable va para mi solar; es más, hay plantas que tienen mayores requerimientos de úrea, y aunque no lo creas, pues recojo orín, lo ligo con agua y con eso las riego, se ponen hermosas, florecen y fructican; así me pasa con mis groselleros, la única forma para que carguen es regándoles con frecuencia con esa mezcla. Claro que tú información me es útil un 100% también guardamos todo al menos mi mamá no me deja botar absolutamente NADA porque todo sirve como abono los huesos si no los utilizo ya que mis mascotas se encargan de eso 😅😅 pero de resto utilizo lo que dices acá y la verdad estaban genial al principio pero luego que dieron frutos comenzaron a morir las auyamas eran enormes y preciosas y tenían buen gusto lo cual no sucede siempre. Sharing these details about pawpaw (papaya) is in no small measure valuable to me. I have learned and use pawpaw in making traditional herb for burning down belly fat. The fruit is very nutritious and can be served as desert for lunch. The leaves have been very useful in making local herbs for fever-related ailments. I like that you shared the turtle eating the peels of the papaya. I have personally used the pawpaw peels in hunting snails.

Hola @pavanjr gracias por venir a visitar mi solar, que bueno verte por acá. Sí, es fácil de cultivar, siempre y cuando se tome de la previsión de proveerle mucho calcio desde el principio, es más, ella no requiere mucho riego porque si es excesivo, se pudre la planta. Si la variedad es enana, ya a los 7-8 meses máximo deberías estar comiendo lechozas; generalmente las lechozas que son como gorditas, con la pulpa roja, son de esa variedad. A mí me gusta mucho, tanto en dulce (del que mañana compartiré un post), como en jugos y batidos, ¡es deliciosa! Sí, él se llama así, Sr. Morrocoy, hay otros, como Bellota, Comiquita, Corazón, Pintas, Mauricio, cada uno con su particularidad, pero el más atrevido es Sr. Morrocoy, no respeta nada y es muy fotogénico como habrás visto.
