Share Our World: The Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park
The Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park is a Buddhist place of peace and blessing in Sedona, Arizona. It was very tranquil as we walked around the stupa, prayer wheels, wooden Buddha, and the Native American medicine wheel.

#### Location

The Peace park located  in a residential area in West Sedona. On the map below you can see SR179 or the Red Rock Scenic Byway that cuts right through Tlaquepaque. To get to the Peace Park you go left on 89A towards west Sedona and then head north to the park.

#### Prayer Wheels

The prayer wheels are filled with millions of mantras or sacred prayers. You are invited to walk around and spin each wheel as you walk around in a clockwise direction. As you do this, energy goes out into the world and brings peace and blessings.

These prayer wheels are very beautiful metal and have sayings on the cylinder and little people on the stand. There is also a place next to the prayer wheels to write a prayer request.

#### Amitabha Stupa
A stupa is a beacon of compassion. It contains millions of prayers, holy texts and sacred objects.  

We were instructed to walk around the stupa in a clockwise direction, at least three times reciting heartfelt prayers. You can also sit at the front of the stupa and think good thoughts for all beings.

This stupa in Sedona is 36 feet high is 20 years old. 

Amitabha is the Buddha of infinite light who purifies the delusion and suffering of attachment.

#### Shakyamuni Buddha
There is a very beautiful mahogany Buddha up above the stupa. It is from Bali, Indonesia and was made in 1980s and given to the Amitabha Stupa in 2006, 2 years after it was first opened.

According to Kahn Academy:

>Shakyamuni Buddha is the founder of the Buddhist religion. He lived and taught in India in the sixth century B.C.E. Born as the crown prince of the great Shakya Kingdom, the young Siddhartha Gautama was groomed to be a king in accordance with the wishes of his royal father. However, when he was about 29 years old, he learned of the deep suffering experienced in life by people. He left his palace life, gave up his fine garments and jewelry in order to find the causes of this suffering and the means to overcome it. After about six years of study, self-deprivation, and deep meditation he finally realized his goal. He had become an enlightened one (a Buddha).
#### Medicine Wheel
It was so cool to see a Native American Medicine Wheel at the peace park. The Medicine Wheel is used to represent the Circle of Life. The center has 7 stones representing the 7 sacred dancers. They are expressed as the 7 rainbow colors or 7 chakras that we call creation. The 4 areas represent the 4 seasons, 4 elements, 4 times of day and 4 stages of human life. 

People are invited to walk the medicine wheel for guidance, healing or clarity. 
>The Wheel is like a Divine mirror, helping us remember all we are.

The peace park is definitely worth a visit if you are in Sedona and I have very found memories of the great calm I felt there. Also, if you are interested in spiritual vortexes, it is said that one of them is here at The Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park.

One of my favorite places on Earth! We spread the ashes of my father and our beagle, Amstel, in that park and pinned a geotag to the location so friends/family can find the spot. My wife and I visit Sedona for a few months every winter. It's our second home, maybe someday it'll become our primary. Thanks for the reminder of this amazing place.
