Tree Tuesday - Covered in Mushrooms

Here are some trees covered in mushrooms for this #treetuesday

I went out in the forest looking for edible mushrooms but only found these ganoderma shelf mushrooms covering all the trees.

This area of the forest is basically covered in these. You can find them at all sizes, shapes and heights.

Here's the one with the helping hand. A woodpecker could easily make a nice home under here if it was smart enough.

This woodpecker miscalculated where to put the hole and ended up not taking advantage of a nice rain roof.

These woodpeckers chose a smaller branch without any shelf fungi on it at all. I've seen starlings take over these homes before.

Here's a huge bracket. I wonder if it can be harvested and turned into a wall shelf by adding a z clip and fastening it to the wall?

Another massive bracket. This one could easily cover two woodpecker homes.

I ended up not finding the one bracket that had a woodpecker hole under it. I remember seeing it at one point in this forest, perhaps that tree fell over like this one. Now it's probably a chipmunk nest.

The only edible mushroom I found on this outing was a dryad's saddle.

It was already too dried out to harvest. So far this year has been a bust for spring mushrooms as the weather was too cold for too long then got hot all of a sudden. Hopefully the summer mushroom hunting will be better and we'll have a huge year of boletes and chanterelles...

There are so many shelves in this area for the woodpeckers to use if they wanted to. I only saw some downys out in this area. Maybe the red bellied woodpeckers are smarter home builders.

Shelf mushrooms are always interesting.  And let me tell you... I'm not going to listen to any more complaints about woodpecker housing shortage 😁  Head west young woodpecker.  Lots of open spots for new holes.

Haha there is prime real estate over here. I wonder if they prefer pecking holes in the attics of homes over here instead, nice warmth there over the winter.
