Wednesday Walk - Emerging for Spring

Here are some cold early spring photos for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay

It was a bright sunny day out finally so we decided to go to a local farm preserve for a walk. This little raccoon was out by the river getting an early morning drink. Once it saw me it skittered under the bridge where it lives.

I poked my camera under the bridge to see him crawling into his sleeping spot. In about 12 hours this little guy will probably be raiding trash cans at the nearest house.

This is the first green I've seen for the season here. I suspect these might be snow drop flowers. Maybe by next week they will be blooming.

Someone glued a fat little bird to the side of a tree and it was cheeping helplessly at me. Just kidding this is just a nuthatch climbing all over a large oak tree looking for who knows what. They seem to be searching for tiny insects but it is still too cold out for insects.

The mallards are beginning to pair up for spring.

Here is a mallard drake preening for spring and basking in the sun.

Now he is all fancified and ready to attract a mate for spring.

This gal seems somewhat impressed by him but who knows how it will turn out lol.

Now we made it back to the historical farm area where they house and ride horses.

Sadly none of the horses were out on this day because the wind was still quite cold. No one wanted to go out riding in that sort of cold wind. By next week all the snow should be gone and green will be everywhere, with hopefully some horses out on the path.

The change of season, how lovely to see a little glimpse of it. 
They do look like little snowdrops. 

The nuthatch looks rather funny like that on the side of the tree hahahaha 

A little longer and the snow will be gone.

Great to see some signs of spring.  Perfect mugshot of little bandit.  Look on face says caught in the act.  Cute farm.  I always like nice crisp well maintained farms like that.

That farm is mostly a forest preserve, it used to be a horse farm with some crops but now they just have a few show horses and trails for them to walk on. The little trash panda was surprised to see me, fortunately off in the distance I noticed a bit of fluff moving so I snuck over there for the shot.

What a lovely raccoon. You was lucky to meet him/her. Today I walked also in the nature, but I have not met any animals during my walk, with the exception of a few flying birds, and a few people walking their dogs.

The trick is to go out in the remote areas to find more wildlife. The only time I see critters in the city is at night, usually possums, raccoons and rats come out at night all over the place to raid the dumpsters for food.
