Real World cost from the Hard Fork 2.whatever!

I have worked HARD to add GOOD content, tried to bring in newbies; and to make them feel welcome. I must have done something right fro being new, I had over 400 people following me.

I also have half a dozen machines I was working on to assist with the overhead of steemit. I have added 2 Tb internals, and 480Gb SSDs to get them ready. I have spent a thousand dollars so far! So I understand the overhead a blog requires! I already paid for the high speed link, and bought server software!

I helped several people get on Steemit, because strength is in numbers. 

I placed second on the engagement league for the last two weeks, Thank you @abh12345 ; trying to make newbies feel like this is a good platform! 

I have been working hard to establish a Solar Power group on Steemit, and have been supporting those in need with my electrical engineering degree.

I have committed decades of herbal study to the use of my fellow steemit friends.

Yes if I am a good boy, I will get about 2 replies a day. I posted on smart meters, and worked VERY hard on it. So far, my 3+ hours of detailed posting is worth (on the NEW steemit) three cents! The last post before that (which was not as good) netted $16.50+; so that post should have been closer to $20. Wish I had been finished with it a couple of weeks ago....

sir smithlabs...are you trying to depress us? I would give it a week like they said it would take before I did anything drastic. And if you want leaders to see this post you'd need to use the tags steem and steemit and I think alot of people would see it then. but well written and I hope it all works out so you don't have to leave.

Me too, do not want to leave, but they did shake my faith. I could build an obscene gaming computer running those six machines in parallel, no one would even understand why I was destroying them in any game, ROFLOL!

I have been in charge of a number of projects, including software packages. I never would have allowed the release of software this undefined. The first task is a roadmap of where you are, and where you must end up. All I/O are part of that plan, including trials with end users at the prototype alpha stage (for critical feedback) on a contained server.

Toby, it sure was a frustrating "success," huh?  

I was encouraged, though, after the initial blunders, that the programmers responded pretty quickly with the fixes.  Let's hope HF20 has the intended effect of drowning out the spammers and bots without permanently killing newbie interest.

I woke up today with enough RC by their numbers for 7 replies. In the real World (Not the HF universe) that really means that I can post three replies, IF I keep them short! I will pick up another three, or four for the rest of the day! I am doing more steemit on E-mail than on steem!                                                                                                                                                                                                      
                                                                                                                                                                                                                      
They have destroyed my account, I can not even reply to those who comment on my very limited (post HF) postings! So Now, I am apparently rude too, because I am forced to ignore people!                                                                                                                                                                                                    
                                                                                                                                                                                                                      
The fixes allow me to fight this raging fire with a tea cup that refills with an eighth inch water line.                                                                                                                                                                                                           
                                                                                                                                                                                                                      
I will try to use al my RC this week (NOT hard), and see where I place in the engagement league. Damn @smithlabs, sorry you feel that way. It was a bit of a shock that this was done so badly and effectively stopped people doing things they loved doing on the network. 

If you haven't already, get yourself a website and build your community up on there as well, don't waste everything you have paid for, try to convert what you can so you have a plan B :)

Stay true to what you want to achieve buddy, you will get there

I have not left, but my faith is badly shaken. I have a website, but it is business use www.smithlabs.us that I wrote myself, what do you think? 

I really jumped off the cliff on the hardware, but with 12 Tb of storage, and 3Tb for OS, I will find a good use for it. I may set up a solar blog of my own, or one for herbal use. Or both.

I have been left adrift by this change, they have broken the faith....

I just looked at the site and its simple enough and functional. You've got a couple of spelling mistakes in the front page though - "medical equipment" in 3rd paragraph and "discuss your specific need" at the end. 

Maybe focus more specifically on what industry you're looking to provide services to as it was a little vague. Is it aerospace, automotive? Looks like you are talking about lean manufacturing and improving process efficiency as well? 

These are just my thoughts but you are obviously doing well with all the projects you have worked on. Maybe have testimonials or case studies too if you can show off your work. 

Yea I think it has been really poorly done this upgrade but I hope things will stabalise in the next couple of days as everyone gets used to the new RC and way things work.

I understand your frustration. The reality is that the hard forks are created by steemit inc. (with help from others on github) and then it is up to the top 20 witnesses in the witness tables to choose to adopt them or not. The rest of the witnesses can run tests and have input, but ultimately their comments can be ignored. The reality here is also that most discussions about this process happen in a private way, where witnesses outside of the top 20 cannot participate.

Testing the code is a major task which requires highly developed skills and specialist knowledge, which means that only a minority of witnesses even stand a chance at being able to do it. I do have C++ experience and also experience of being a professional developer and tester - so I can do it and have pledged to try to do it in advance of the next major hard fork. The reality here is that this will take a lot of my time and I currently only just make enough money from running a witness to cover my costs - so I can only really do this at times where I have enough money to pay my bills from other things. I am currently doing what I can to get more votes to increase the amount of time I can put into this process in future.

I do understand, I consult ( www.smithlabs.us ) for a living, and have written and supervised software projects. My expertise is in EE, but I own a machine shop and a test lab. I only get called when it is hopeless. I usually farm out software, because I can do it, but I do not enjoy it.

I liked what you are doing, which is why I voted for you! I was just wanting feedback from pond scum to travel up stream. This was supposed to bring in newbies to increase the steem numbers, but it removes all the incentive for those new members. That has never made sense to me.

This hard fork has done me a lot of harm. Reading the feedback from some of the whales that included comments that bore little resemblance to the real World of steemit; shook me some. If they do NOT have a basic understanding of how it is being used; how can they affect positive change in the software?

I required me software programmers to work (shadowing) an actual user in three different cities, BEFORE any flow charts were begun! We had superior software, on every machine.

Thanks! I agree regarding the issues with the whales vs everyone else and have written some posts on that subject in the last couple of days. [this one](https://steempeak.com/hf20/@ura-soul/1-comment-post-per-day-limit-for-new-users-do-the-new-rules-leave-space-for-growth) that touches on elitism is definitely on that topic.

I do my best to regularly shine light into what I and probably you understand to be the real world of merging software with humans and how to create a healthy balance. The more I do it, the more I feel it achieves something, but we need to understand all of the mechanics of the psychology and motives involved before truly effective changes can be created. I think a lot of people are waiting for SMTs and communities to be launched on Steem before pushing for other significant moves. That is likely to take place in the next 6 months. Steempeak.com is my replacement for steemit.com (I have given up waiting for improvements there) and I am working with that team to improve steempeak further. We just have to work with what we have and do the best we can with it!

I liked reading about your work processes. I have never heard of that level of attention to detail in the software creation process within a team (although I have seen it with independent coders who are self employed). Kudos!
