I don't agree with this saying at all.

Teach your children from birth to respect all forms of life. Respect is not earned, it is learnt. And out of that respect, love will grow. If it doesn't, it won't last.

You can't love someone that you don't respect, or whom you have lost your respect for. Love is earned.

It's not love that cultivates respect. Respect cultivates love. Easy as that.

In my mind it's the concept of common human decency, which many of us have lost touch with. It means treating others with human compassion simply because they exist, and not being a cruel person. Respect is something that higher merit, in my mind. If I tell someone that I respect them, that has been earned. It is because I admire a quality about them that I don't see in many other people.

While I hear this phrase of human respect, I understand what it means when people say it. I just identify it as common human decency.
